Best Buy: Nikon D300 replaced by D300s in September

Update: for unknown to me reason, the “official Best Buy twitter feed” does not exists any longer.

This is coming from the official Best Buy twitter feed, not sure how they came up with the September date – maybe this is when the Nikon D300s will be available in their stores:

The most ridiculous Nikon rumor

Remember the Nikon MX rumors from last year? Some Chinese forum now claims that the M stands for Micro and the new MX camera will have:

  • 24.8mp full frame sensor
  • 1080p video at 24fps, 30fps or 60fps
  • 100% optical viewfinder
  • Nikkor 10-70mm f/1.2 lens

Many Nikon products currently not available

Update: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX lens now in stock.

I received multiple reports from around the world about unavailable Nikon products. This is normal for Nikon and at any point of time they have several products that are back ordered/out of stock. It could be also that Nikon’s production lines are busy with new products… Anyway, here is the list I compiled (again – most of those are probably temporary shortages, so read this is a report, not as a rumor):

  • Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G out of stock:

Nikon advertisement survey

Nikon had an online survey (hosted on an independent website) for several Nikon DSLR ads – the name and model of the camera were covered. Note that they call it “The new… vs. Compromise” (more ads after the break):

Nikon D5000 technical service advisory

“An electronic component related to power control in some Nikon D5000 digital SLR cameras does not meet factory specifications and may, in certain circumstances, prevent the camera from turning on, thus preventing operation of the camera thereafter.”

More Nikon D300s pictures

I guess this should not be a surprise to any NikonRumors reader at that point, especially since we’ve seen similar Nikon D300s pictures in the past and reported the Nikon D300s specs almost 2 months ago (more pics after the break):

Are those the new new Nikon lenses?

I do not know much about lens design. I went through all existing Nikon lenses and could not find any similarities. Of course such images are not difficult to be photoshopped.

Those are supposed to be the lens constructions for the upcoming Nikon 24mm f/1.4, Nikon 35mm f/1.4 and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses:

Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G gone also from BestBuy

nikon-70-200mm

An email from somebody that works for BestBuy:

“I work at a BestBuy in the digital camera department and I did a little research on the Nikon 70-200mm being phased out. Sure enough it is on its way out. Our warehouse is out of them and I cannot special order one for a customer if i needed to. The end date of us carrying it would be between August and October depending on how many they have left and how quickly our stock runs out.”
