Few days ago I got one of the first production samples of the new Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G FX lens. I’ve been dreaming of this lens since I bought my D700 in April 2012 and I was eager to give it a try. In my opinion the lens was really worth the wait. So I took it for a short evening session and here are my first impressions:
Nikon D4s camera’s sensor

A reader did some quick high ISO comparisons between the Nikon D4 and D4s cameras and sent me few screenshots (available also on flickr). I have another comparison coming in the next few days.
I have long benefited from and enjoyed your site, so I thought it was time that I contribute.
I had the opportunity to test both a D4s and a D4 together. Here is a side-by-side comparison of their high ISO performance using the world’s best DSLR lens (believe the hype), the Zeiss Otus 55 mm f/1.4. I carefully AF fine tuned both cameras with this lens using Lens Align II, then shot the same object, an extraordinarily finely carved vessel, at f/4, the aperture at which the Otus is sharpest in the center. The photos were recorded as 14-bit NEF files.

The Nikon D4s started shipping worldwide today. B&H confirmed that they got their first shipment and are currently fulfilling their existing pre-orders on first come first served basis. In the US, OneCall currently has D4s cameras in stock (update: all sold out now):

The latest rumors are that the Nikon 1 V3 with a new 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD VR lens and the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR zoom will all be announced next week, probably on March 12th or 13th. There will also be a new Nikon 1 light (LED?) accessory – maybe one of those prototypes:
FYI: last year Nikon announced the LD-1000 LED movie light that is still available today and I doubt that it will be replaced next week.
I expect this to be a Nikon 1 announcement only and I don’t think we will see anything else (the rumored Nikon Coolpix P8000 camera is expected in April-May).

Some new rumors started circulating that Nikon will not release a D4x camera but instead refresh the Nikon D800 (D800s?) the way they updated the D4s (same sensor, improved ISO, slightly faster, higher price tag). It is too early to mark this rumor with anything above 50% probability.
