About next week Nikon announcements and beyond

There will be no new DSLR announcement during the Nikon press conferences scheduled for February 9th, 2011. At least five new Coolpix cameras will be introduced next week for the  CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show in Japan (February 9-12, 2011). One of them will be a new super-zoom (Nikon Coolpix P500), the second will be a 24-100mm compact […]

Nikon Coolpix S8100 compared to Canon S95 and why Nikon needs a serious compact camera

I am very particular when it comes to small (pocketable) cameras and I wanted to find out how good (or bad) the top of the line Coolpix S8100 really is. I ignored the P7000 because it is in a different category – I wanted to see what a “real” point and shoot Nikon camera is all about. A natural choice […]

Nikon is preparing a major announcement at the end of August

Certain Nikon offices have already blocked employees from taking vacation in the last two weeks of August 2011. Expect major announcements during that time frame (my guess: D3s and/or D300s replacement). This is not really surprising, since Nikon likes to make announcements at the end of Summer (the D3, D300, D90, D3100, D7000, many lenses and Coolpix cameras were […]

Update on the Nikon Coolpix P500

Just a quick update on the rumored Nikon Coolpix P500: in addition to the extra wheel on the lens for faster zooming, the camera will have a 22.5-810mm (x36) zoom and a 12MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor (probably made by Sony). The current P100 model has 10.3MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and a 26-678mm (x26) zoom.

The second Nikon Coolpix camera for February could be the P500

I know most of you don’t really care about the Coolpix line, but this is all I got for now. After the 24-100mm f/1.8 model, the second camera rumored to be announced in February is the the Coolpix P500 that will have a  30x or 35x zoom with an extra wheel on the lens for faster […]

Nikon announcements approaching

Nikon will have new product announcements in the next few weeks. February is the time for the Coolpix line to be refreshed with the possibility of other new products to be revealed. Nikon has been consistent in the past with the February release schedule: In February of 2009 Nikon announced the 35mm f/1.8 DX lens plus Coolpix […]

Nikon will not have any announcements at CES 2011

It seems that Nikon will not have any announcements at CES 2011. Nikon has only reserved meeting rooms at the show and will not have a real booth. The Coolpix line of cameras, including the rumored 24-100mm f/1.8 model, are expected to be refreshed in February. For a full list of CES 2011 announced and yet-to-be-announced products, check […]
