Nikon EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion battery recall

Today Nikon recalled some of the EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion batteries ($64.95) that are used with the Nikon D7000, D800, D800E and Nikon 1 V1 cameras. The described reason for the recall is overheating. There were no overheating cases reported from users, the problem has been discovered during the manufacturing process.

DxOMark verdict: Nikon D800 – 95, Canon 5D Mark III – 81

DxOMark just published their Canon EOS 5D Mark III test results and the Nikon D800 scored better in every category, including low light ISO capabilities. The D800 got the highest score ever given by DxOMark by even topping medium format cameras costing 10 times more.

First Nikon D800E gets unboxed in Europe, includes Capture NX2

Underwater housings for Nikon D800 and D4 cameras in the making

The first underwater housing prototypes for Nikon D800 and D4 cameras are already out and they look slick. I was told that the Hugyfot housing for D800 will cost “only” €2,850 including VAT (around $3,700). Hugyfot showed also those 3D rendering for the D4 housing at the London Dive Show:

Nikon D800E to be released on April 12th in limited quantities

Nikon Japan issued a statement that the D800E pre-orders/reservations have greatly exceeded the amount of produced cameras and they apologize for the inconvenience/delay.
