Xitek’s interview with Nikon


The Chinese website Xitek published an interview with Toru Matsubara, Chairman of P&E Nikon China. Here a brief recap:

  • The Nikon Z9 is going exceptionally well with unprecedented improvement in processor
  • Pixel Shift Multi-Shot functionality in the Z9 is under consideration
  • New super-telephoto Z lens will be announced together with the Nikon Z9 (300mm or 400mm most likely)
  • New Micro Z lens is coming soon
  • Nikon is considering internal N-log
  • By the end of 2022, there will be 30 Nikkor Z mirrorless lenses
  • Nikon is currently concentrated on the mirrorless market, no mention of upcoming DSLR cameras
  • 8k demand is growing
  • Camera sales are recovering in China
  • Demand for middle and high-end products is stable and Nikon will focus on middle to high-end models
  • Nikon will continue to provide support and equipment during the Olympics games
