The CIPA report for July is out: worse than previous years (again)


CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their July report and the downturn continues – the total number of shipped digital cameras is lower compared to the same month in previous years  (orange: 2019, black: 2018, blue: 2017, click for larger view):

  • DSLR Units  -36%
  • DSLR Shipped Value -45%
  • Mirrorless Units -14%
  • Mirrorless Shipped Value +4%
  • Compact Units -19%
  • Compact Shipped Value -16%
  • Lenses for smaller than 35mm Units –31%
  • Lenses for smaller than 35mm Shipped Value -29%
  • Lenses for 35mm and larger Units -13%
  • Lenses for 35mm and large Shipped Value -1%
  • Mirrorless unit share (of Mirrorless + DSLR): 44%
  • Mirrorless Shipped Value share: 59%
