I have heard Nikon was won that chess~!!! 🙂

    • Canon User

It was just a rumor 🙂

  • ShaoLynx

The last week was quite interesting for the rumors.
Way to go, Peter, keep up the good work.
Hopefully, in one month the news flash will be even more revealing…

    • Yes! A belated thank you for the hard work you do, and great websites you run, Peter. Always a joy to visit. Always entertaining.

  • Jack

I’d love to play that chess game.

    • ShaoLynx

      Yeah, me too.
And I choose to play with the grey pieces: every black piece I eliminate I get to keep.

    • I’d love to own that chess game. 🙂

If the tall lenses are the kings, that means that the queen and king are on the wrong starting squares.

  • asdf

when did the queen got taller than the king?

    • poizen22

the queen is wearing heals ?

I hope there will be good Nikon services in the Philippines and Nikon cameras will be truly supported by genuine and well trained technicians.
Philippines is still a Canon country because of a good after sales service and the presence of several Canon service centers. Columbia Digital needs to prove that they are a worthy Nikon service center. I hope Nikon will read this as well as Columbia Digital. I hope with growing numbers of Nikon users, Nikon headquarters will finally notice or make a glance on us.
A lot of Nikon users here buy their cameras from Hongkong and Singapore and some from USA.For those who can’t afford to travel get their units from Hidalgo, the grey capital of the Philippines when it comes to camera. They even provide better services than Columbia Digital.
I hope to buy my next camera from an authorized dealer if they can provide the services that a legitimate unit deserved to have otherwise no amount of pro line up will ever advance the Nikon cause in the Philippines.

Products of (or for) which Country are considered “grey-market” on the Philippines? However, grey-market maybe still better than copy-products. I saw a lot of copy cellphones in the Philippines, if that proves true for cameras as well, then good night…

  • Dave Konitz

Obviously the dark side always wins!

    • LOL

Sorry man, ep. 4 and ep. 6 they lose.

      Ep. 1 everyone loses.

      • Iris Chrome

You obviously haven’t seen ep. 7000 yet :-p

  • R R

definitely the most expensive chess table ever!

  • dgs

The team-up between Nikon and Adobe in South Africa is quite interessting in terms of Capture NX and View NX. I’d rather seen a give-away of NX2, which could indicate a new version coming soon, then a competitor product.

  • Jabs

    Hey Administrator,
Maybe you add this link too about Nikon beating others in the Pro ranks – from the source

    I posted it before too

    • Lulz

Lol look at Sony bringing up the rear.

    • Jabs, this is the first link in the post, it just points to a different website.

  • Jabs

Why don’t we dream a little?
Give me all of the lenses – both Nikon and Canon and you keep the tiles.
I keep the Nikon glass and sell the Canon glass to buy several D3X and D3s bodies plus a D7000 and D5100 – the rest of the money spent on polarizing, ND, soft and color filters.

OK – time to wake up – lol

  • broxibear

If anyone knows a photographer or spectator at the World Swimming Championships, Shanghai at the moment ask them to take a few images of the photographers… there’s bound to be a D4, D800 or D400 in there somewhere.
The event runs until the 31st of July.

    • Jabs

And what if they get beat up for taking a picture of a probably disguised D4, D4X or D800 and/or a mirrorless Nikon – are you going to bail them out or take them to the hospital now – lol?

Good idea though and I would also try the upcoming or already happened (?) – IAAF Samsung Diamond League series in Monte Carlo, France AND World Championships set for Daegu, South Korea between August 27 and September 4

Time to see what Usain Bolt and others do – maybe world records fall.

      Bring on the 300 F4 ED-IF AFs VR2 and a 800 F4 or F5.6 ED-IF AFs VR2

    • Jabs

All the cameras are probably disguised so you might see it and don’t know or we could simply use Google Earth to look there – maybe – hmmmm (light bulb goes off in head) – lol.

There it is out: just a third of the DSLR buyers use Video on their DSLR. Since this report considered online buyers only, one can assume the total number may be even lower, cause one can conclude that online buyers have a stronger affinity to new technology than buyers who -more conservative- buy at a photo-dealership.

    • ericnl

      “just” one third?

  • Bonetti

    • ElPadre

well, so what, slow news week. i actually LOVE the chess set. 🙂

    • The invisible man.

Of course, you’re board because of the chess game.

      • BartyL

        Oh, very good.

  • Iris Chrome

Look at all those lowly pawns. What do you suppose they are? 24-70mm’s? They have the tripod ring so I don’t think so. Maybe 70-200mm’s? They’re like a dime a dozen. Lowly indeed….

    • Heollo friendo

      Ha ha!

    • El Aura

You have on each side one 600 mm f/4, one 500 mm f/4, several 300 mm f/2.8, several 200 mm f/2 and the rest lowly 70-200 mm f/2.8.

  • Ben Hipple

so what would be the total cost of the chess set be?

    • El Aura

About $150 000 according to LensRentals.

  • jg

I wish Nikon would work out a deal with Adobe for other places.

  • joe

What the heck is the “Nikon Pro series”?

J.D. Power: Turning lies into statistics into sales since 1968.

    • Jabs

      Pro Series – D3, D3s, D3X, D700 plus maybe D300, D300s

    • Iris Chrome

Yeah I thought the same thing too, especially since the report separates Nikon into “Pro Series” and “D Series.” The categorization of Canon is confusing too; “Mark Series” and “D Series.”

  • Jake

yeah that JD thing is a load of BS. Usually irritates me when canon users complain after theyve been told their gear isn’t as good but that survey and report was utter nonsense..

    • Jake

complain about how a survey was taken incorrectly etc
