Nikon just released firmware updates for three mirrorless lenses (Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2, Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8, and Nikkor Z 105mm f/2.8) adding linear focus ring rotation and updating the focus/control ring roles in the menu:
