New Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC 1.4 FL ED VR lens to be announced next week

I received a confirmation from one of my sources that next week for CES Nikon will announce the previously rumored AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC 1.4 FL ED VR lens. Nokishita also confirmed the new lens on Twitter. There will be also two new accessories: HK-41 (lens hood) and LC-K103 (front lens cap).

The pricing is still not known, but this lens will not be cheap – I expect to be around $9,00-$10,000 maybe even more (the current Nikkor 200-400mm model is $6,996.95, while the new Canon 200-400 lens with TC is priced at 10,999).

Will Samyang start making autofocus lenses for Nikon F-mount? (first Canon autofocus lens coming soon)

I have reported on several occasions in the past that Samyang will start producing autofocus DSLR lenses (see also this and this posts). The first Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 EF autofocus lens for Canon mount will be announced in a few days. We have to see if Samyang will also start producing autofocus lenses also for Nikon F-mount (my guess is yes).

The latest Nikon patents: mirrorless lenses, curved sensor and more

Nikon’s patent US20170261728 contains calculations for various mirrorless f/2.8-4 lenses designed for various sensor sizes (FX, DX, 2x crop factor and 1″):

Nikon FX mirrorless lenses:

  • 24-85mm f/2.8-4
  • 24-105mm f/2.8-4
  • 24-70mm f/2.8-4

Nikon DX mirrorless lenses:

  • 16-60mm f/2.8-4
  • 16-70mm f/2.8-4
  • 16-50mm f/2.8-4
  • 18-55mm f/2.8-4

Lenses for 2x crop factor:

  • 12-40mm f/2.8-4

Lenses for 1″ sensor:

  • 9-35mm f/2.8-4

Among all these patents there is also a patent for a full frame 24-85mm f/2.8-4 DSLR lens.

Next is another Nikon patent for a curved sensor and a matching 50mm f/2.8 lens (P2017-53887A):

Lexar XQD 128GB memory cards now in stock at Amazon US (with a price drop)

Lexar XQD memory cards have been hard to get in the last few months and the 128 GB version is finally in stock at Amazon US (update: sold out now). The price has also dropped from $159 to $123. Sony XQD memory cards are available in limited quantities.

It’s January 1st 2018 and the Nikon D850 is still out of stock

Almost four months after shipment began, the D850 is still out of stock in the US.

Here are the latest shipping dates for existing D850 pre-orders in the top three US stores (shipping dates were last updated on January 1st based on info received from readers):

  • Amazon: now shipping to pre-orders placed on January 6th
  • Adorama: now shipping to pre-orders placed on January 12th
  • B&H: now shipping to pre-orders placed on December 28th

I believe that the next US shipment could actually put the D850 in stock in some retailers as already reported by DC.Watch.
