Here is a free program to check the Nikon D850 shutter count (Windows only)

There is a new free software that lets you check both the mechanical and electronic shutter count of the Nikon D850 DSLR camera. You can download it here (click on the zip file link, see also this page). The software will most likely work also for other Nikon DSLR cameras.

Update – another option to get D850 shutter count is the ExifTool: just download and unzip the archive then double-click on “exiftool(-k).exe” to read the application documentation, drag-and-drop the jpg to the ExifTool icon to view meta information or rename to “exiftool.exe” for command-line use.

Online you can check the shutter count of your camera at shuttercounter.com and camerashuttercount.com.

A Nikon D850 review for wildlife and nature photographers by Steve Perry

This Nikon D850 review is written by Steve Perry (website | YouTube | Facebook, you can check also his previous NR posts here):

A Nikon D850 Review For Wildlife And Nature Photographers

As a professional nature photographer, I’ve frequently entertained thoughts about what the “ideal” camera might look like for my work.

Right off the bat, I’d want a camera with abundant resolution for both printing and, when necessary, cropping. Of course, a fast frame rate is a must for action, as is a buffer that can manage that flood of fast-paced imagery. Decent mid-to-high ISO performance is also mandatory for low light scenarios (so I can keep shooting when the magic happens). Naturally, we should round this out with a fast autofocus system featuring sniper-like accuracy for capturing those fleeting, elusive moments.

This hypothetical camera has been a little fantasy of mine for the last decade or so, and honestly, I thought the only place I’d ever see it was in my daydreams.

Then, the D850 burst onto the scene like some kind of photographic rock star, and you know, it’s pretty darn close to that fantasy camera.

Large shipment of Nikon D850 cameras hitting US stores this week

I was told that a large shipment of Nikon D850 cameras is hitting US stores this week. Based on input from readers, Amazon is currently shipping D850 pre-orders placed at the end of September.

The Nikon D850 Amazon listing now says “Temporarily out of stock” instead of the previous “Shipping in 2-4 months”. It seems that the current waiting time at Amazon is around 30 days.

The latest updates from the Nikon D850 Facebook group are that B&H is still fulfilling D850 pre-orders placed in late August (the last shipped pre-order I saw was placed on August 25th at 10pm). The B&H product listing doesn’t provide an estimated time of shipping.

Check D850 availability: B&H | Adorama | Amazon | BuyDig | Cameta | Focus Camera | eBay | WEX | Jessops
