35 afs

50 something. Source isn’t solid on this. Either 1.8 af-s, 1.4 IF, or 1.2 with electronic vignetting correction for d3 d700 with firmware upgrade.
I have no details on the third.”

Then I asked for more details and here is the answer:

“35 afs is having qa issues
Source said 50 1.2 with electronic vignetting control will not be announced till PMA next year. Expect a 50 1.8 or 1.4 afs version.”

Graham Watson: “The 70-200mm will be replaced in September by a newer version, the ‘N’ series”

Thank you for that one J.

Graham Watson has been a Nikon shooter for a long time. In the Ask Graham section of his site http://www.grahamwatson.com/gw/askgraham.nsf/AskGraham you will find (scroll down to 07/13/2008):

Bob – 07/13/2008:
Graham, your pics of the tour are fantastic as always. On the sunny days do you use fill flash to help fill in the shadows with your D3 or is the active d-lighting option sufficient to help with this. If you are using active d-lighting what level do you find the most useful? I use a D3 and find it a great camera. I did do the most recent firmware update and feel that it has solved the low battery warning issue when using it with the 70-200 f2.8. Have you had the same experience? I do find this lens is my most commonly used lens with shooting cycling. Do you feel the same way or are there other lenses that you prefer to use with the D3? Thanks
Hi Bob, I use one of my D3’s with active D-Lighting and no flash – the other body has the active switched off as the buffer gets shortened, and for example a finish-line sequence gets cut off short. I have got better with the flash on a D3, but I still shoot some Tour stages with a D1X – the mountainous days when there are a lot of shadows. The 70-200mm will be replaced in September by a newer version, the ‘N’ series – I can’t wait to get hold of one! GW
