Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX specs

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX specs:

Min focusing distance: 1 ft. / 0.3 m.

Weight: 7 oz. /200 g.

One aspherical element

Rubber seal: yes

Not a “N” lens

Price: EUR 250

Just for comparison the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G (what the hell is that price on Amazon anyway) can focus at 0.45 m/1.5 ft. and weights 9.9 oz. / 280 g.

We should know the rest of the details in few hours. Nikon usually makes their announcements at midnight US Eastern time (morning in Europe). The D700, D90 and the AF-S 50mm came up at midnight, but the D3x came up at 11 pm, so take your pick: 11pm or midnight tonight (US Eastern time). We should start seeing leaks already.

I will be online…. sniffing.

…and you know that Nikon D400 will be coming out soon…

After the leak on Amazon, now a online book seller in Switzerland is ready to sell the same Nikon D400 book (expected July 2009):

nikon-d400-book-ch

A reader actually found the German publisher and they have the book on their website as well:

nikon-d400-book-de

So, we know the D400 is coming and I will not be surprised if we see it in the next week or so, together with the new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX. I am also smelling another lens, maybe FX… Maybe a remake of an existing lens, but I do not have any info on this – just my own speculation. Nikon has to release something in FX, otherwise all the full frame fans will be pissed about the new DX products. If you remember, the Nikon D90 was released before Photokina, so the D400 could be released before PMA, especially since Canon is expected to  release new products as well in the next 2 weeks.

Here are some more related rumors I received, all unconfirmed:

  • Got a report form a reputable small dealer – D400 should come with 1080p video, more pixels, and better noise. It doesn’t say much, but the point was that it should “really replace” the D300.
  • Someone (anonymously) sent me some good D400 lottery numbers: 15, 6, 12800, 51, and 1080. I don’t know, it could be a joke.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX – now 100% sure

Yes, it will be DX and we may see it… on Monday, February 9th (I am not 100% about the date – either Feb 9th or Feb 16th). Price: EUR 250. One aspherical element. Yehaaaa!

I put the final nail on this rumor myself  – found it on a web site that I will not disclose (not dpreview). You got to trust me on this one folks. I will monitor this site to see if something else will leak.

NR was down

Almost done…

NR is now running WordPress 2.7, has an updated theme, and the avatar issue is fixed – if someone cares. The site is still under construction – a small change in the RSS feeds is still pending. You can still get NR updates on twitter and facebook and while you are there you can become a fan of NR.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX

I got multiple leads on this one – it doesn’t make sense to me why Nikon would introduce a DX prime lens, but here it is with a grain of salt:

“Nikon is about to present a new lens on Monday the 16th; Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX (yes, a DX lens, not FX …!).”

Does anyone see any reason for a prime DX lens besides price advantage? Maybe somebody is playing a bad joke with us, but then again why would they say it’s DX – this just makes this rumor less believable and reduces the chance of me posting it – he/she could just say a new 35mm lens will be released in a week. Does it make sense to announce a new lens before PMA?

Nikon’s “Look Good in Pictures” goes 30 episodes strong

Strong enough for an official Nikon press release. All episodes can be found here – I am sure everyone will be trilled to see them all. Here, for example, is a very educational video named “Bravery in Bathing Suits”.
