Nikon UK on the D3s rumors: “No comments”

Link to the AmateurPhotographer article. I guess this is the standard answer from any company, but at least they did not deny it.

Nikon Rumors giveaway #2

The giveaway is now closed. The winners will be announced later today. Thanks for participating.

I have two books to give away – Nikon D90 and Nikon D5000:

nikon-d90-book nikon-d5000-book

Both are written by David Busch (web sitebibliography). His Nikon D300s book is coming up at the end of the month. Click on the above images to take a sneak peak inside the books on Amazon.

This time the rules will be different than the first NR giveaway: you will just have to leave a comment to this post with the camera model you have/are interested in – for example “D90” or “D5000”. You can pick only one model and win only one book. One entry per person. You can leave other comments if you wish, but for the drawing I will consider only comments that have one of the two keywords (“D90” or “D5000”). I will close all comments in 24 hours and will randomly pick one winner for each book. Of course I don’t believe in “US only” giveaways and I will ship those books anywhere in the world.

Fine print: The contest is void where prohibited by law. If you are not old enough to be eligible to win a free photography book, go live someplace else. All taxes are the responsibility of the winner. NikonRumors.com is not responsible for anything.

Nikon shooting a new commercial in LA

UPDATE#2: it seems that they are shooting a commercial for the Nikon Coolpix S70.

UPDATE: I got some unconfirmed reports that the shooting is still going on today (Wednesday) and Ashton Kutcher is part of this commercial.

A reader just sent me this: it seems that Smuggler Inc. was shooting/is still shooting a new commercial for Nikon (here is the link to the original article):

Anybody in that area – have you seen something? Can you drive by tomorrow (or now) and look for Ashton Kutcher with a small Nikon camera with a CMOS sensor in his hands? Any pictures, security videos? Anything?

It seems that Nikon will announce a camera similar to Leica X1

UPDATE: when I use the phrase an “X1 clone” I just mean to say a compact camera with a CMOS sensor, the X1 is just used as a reference. Do not expect to get the exact same Leica X1 camera with a Nikon logo for a half price. If Nikon does release something like that, I can guarantee you it will have nothing to do with the Leica X1, except the sensor size.

The second mystery camera on October 15th may really be a Leica X1 clone. This rumor circulated the globe few weeks ago and Nikon Singapore has replied that “based on the current outlook, we do not foresee a similar product range as the Leica X1” (initial source was CNet).

The rumor I received today says that Nikon is manufacturing the X1 model for Leica (or at least parts of it) and that the Nikon version will have the same sensor as in the D300. Not sure yet whether it will have video recording capabilities (the Leica X1 doesn’t). The source mentioned also that the camera may have a swivel display or look even something like the old Nikon Coolpix 995:

Another Nikon Expo, this time in Russia

Nikon Russia will participate in the 14th St.Petersburg PhotoFair, which will be held from 15 to 18 October 2009. The schedule of workshops and presentations is similar to the Nikon show in France (Google translation is below, for original link in Russian click here) and includes “Presentation of the new products” which of course could be the D300s and D3000, but it seems that with photo shows around the world scheduled almost at the same time, October 15th would be a perfect day to announce new products and then have them on display at those events (see also Malaysia Nikon event and New York Photo Expo):

October 15

Nikon Fabre Photo EX portable stereoscopic microscope review

I usually don’t do reviews, but when I do… I make sure it is something interesting and fun.

The Nikon Fabre Photo EX microscope was released back in February 2009 but unfortunately only for the Japanese market. If you are in Japan you can buy it from Amazon for less than US$1000 (including the DSLR adapter) but since Amazon Japan doesn’t ship to other countries (excepts books and CDs), I had to get mine from the JapanTrendShop.com (they will ship everywhere). In the US you can still get the older version which doesn’t have the option to attach it to a DSLR.
