New Nikon DSLR SKUs added in the inventory system of a major retail store

nikon-i-am-coming

I received a tip that a major retail store (I was asked not to mention the store name and the country) has added new SKUs in their internal system for a Nikon DSLR camera without listing the model or any other details. This is a common practice for retail stores to get their inventory system ready for an upcoming new product. As I already mentioned, the chances of a Nikon D7000 replacement next week are still pretty good.

DxoMark-Nikon-1-J3-test-score

  • DxOMark released the test scores for the Nikon 1 J3 camera. Their conclusion:

“Although the new Nikon 1 J3 has been updated over its predecessor with the higher-resolution sensor found in Nikon’s top-of-the-line interchangeable lens model, its overall performance scores haven’t improved over the J2. The camera seems to be hampered by the reduction in overall sensitivity range and most notably scored 2/3 stop lower than the J2 for color depth.”

A: While we increased production and inventory of digital SLR cameras as one of measures against the risk of floods in Thailand, rapid deterioration in the market occurred late November and continuing into December. That resulted in a reduction of unit prices and additional sales costs in fiercer market competition. This is the main reason of a significant adjustment for Imaging Company which had been making stable earnings, and we have taken this fact seriously.

Nikon’s announcement next week could also be for a new high-end Coolpix camera

Nikon Coolpix logoAfter talking to several sources, nobody could confirm the announcement of the D7000 replacement next week. The lack of leaked images and detailed specifications also makes me think that either Nikon has gone completely underground with the new camera, or the D7100 will just not happen next week.
