Nikon is actively considering developing Nikkor cinema lenses

Televisual spoke with the Nikon and RED teams at the recent NAB show in Las Vegas. Here is the recap – I already reported most of what they said back in March:

  • Both companies will develop new products in the future, but this will take several years of development. For now, Nikon and Red will continue working on their current product lines.
  • Nikon is actively considering developing Nikkor cinema lenses.
  • Sean Mchugh, former Chief Strategy Officer of RED is excited about Nikon’s “very low power, high-speed special purpose chip could create all sorts of things” and Nikon’s high volume software development and lens technology.
  • Keiji Oishi, the new CEO of RED is excited about RED’s sensor technologies for wide high dynamic range and its color science.
