This week I will try to catch up on all the latest Nikon patents. Coincidently the folks from Optic Explorer contacted me about their new lens simulator/lens database website:

“I thought your readers might be interested to know that when interesting new Nikon (or other photographic/optical) patents emerge, they can use this web application to simulate the characteristics and performance of lenses:

There’s also a sizable database of existing lens designs that can be searched for and simulated. For example:

Show me all Nikon 50mm lenses

You can explore the lens database and tinker with lenses, light sources etc. without logging in or creating an account. If you want to create your own library of lens designs, you can create an account to store and share your designs. In either case, it’s free to use.”
