February CIPA report: DSLR cameras production has better numbers than mirrorless

CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their February report. The downturn in the camera indistry continues - the total number of shipped digital cameras is lower compared to the same month in previous years (see the graphs ovder at PhotoRumors.com).

The table above with the actual numbers has some interesting info - DSLR cameras performed better than mirrorless in February. DSLR camera production (marked with red) saw a significant increase:

  • compared to previous month (number of units/yen value): 135.4% / 116.6% (2* column)
  • compared to same month last year (number of units/yen value): 104% / 103%  (3* column)

For the same period, the mirrorless numbers (marked with blue) were not as good:

  • compared to previous month (number of units/yen value):  105.4% / 89.5% (2* column)
  • compared to same month last year (number of units/yen value): 88.7% / 97.8%  (3* column)

The total shipment numbers are similar.
