That 70-200 is still too expensive after discount, in my opinion.

No chance, even little, to compete with new Tamron 70-200 G2(Good copy,of course!).It should be less than that.

      • Unrest

That’s funny. The Tamron G2 is perhaps as good (not better) than the Nikon 2.8 VR II. But that’s saying something. They’re both excellent lenses.

Where’s the head to head comparison?

          • Unrest

Don’t have any direct experience with the Tamron but I have shot with the VR II a bunch. I did see a couple of video comparisons on YouTube that basically called it a draw (they were very impressed with the vibration reduction on the Tamron though).

  • Unrest

With the instant rebate, I think it’s priced appropriately.

    • Amir

Go for it and take two,one for me,please!

      • Unrest

        I did & got one.

    • TwoStrayCats

I thought about that one, too. I do have the old 80-200 slip-n-slide – which, besides being a tank, is a pretty sharp, good lens. I haven’t come to the conclusion I need to replace it yet even though its about 25 years old.

      • Depends on what body you are using. If 24 mp or more one, then you should test this new lens.

      • Unrest

In addition to the body you’re using, suppose it depends on how you’re using it (i.e., handheld events, portraits or landscapes with a tripod, etc.). If you like the old 80-200 and use it on a tripod, you may not need to upgrade. The VR in the new 2.8 FL is amazing though I must say! 🙂

  • TwoStrayCats

I took advantage of this one and picked up the 14-24.

    Where’s the D850 rebate?

  • nwcs

At this point I’d probably buy a refurb from Nikon than deal with the rebate. A shorter warranty period but a nicer discount.

    • AngryPhotog (anankephi)

Always buy with the longest warranty period possible
