  • I think I saw in one of the videos a window mounting accessory – I will buy that camera for my car for sure.

    • Hmm, I didn’t think of that. I wonder how these will stack up against dedicated dash cams…

On the other hand, since this is 360°, having me filmed while driving will be pretty boring 🙂

        Unless you’re Russian

        • sickheadache

Russia..The Car Crash County. And Crooked Cops.

      • It will be able to record front and back at the same time.

      • ninpou_kobanashi

It’ll capture the look on your face in the event that something interesting happens… (^_^)

Hej Peter, just had a talk with 43, Fuji and SAR admins. You went too far, you’ll get doxxed. Your personal details and those of your collaborators will be leaked on the net. Have fun, you thieving gypsy :))

  • Sure it is nicely dynamic – like always with ultra wide angles lenses – but it gives me a headache to watch the videos!

    • hje

watch those demo videos on a smartphone with the youtube app. on my computer I also got a headache

    • Aldo

You know… I got a similar effect watching the promo videos… not a headache but it definitely bothers me. I’ve seen many gopro videos and I’m fine with them… I wonder what’s different… I think the nikon is a lot more ‘fishy’

  • Those videos seem compressed to hell and back. Will have to wait and see actual footage… hopefully that’s not what the camera outputs!

  • Paul

Is that a case that *doesn’t* protect the lens? lol

  • T.I.M

    Additional coverage ?
I thought it was already 360°

  • T.I.M

Video samples are not HD (480p at the best)

  • doge

Is the 360 degree youtube feature in beta or something? Does that explain why the image quality doesn’t look good?

    • BlueBomberTurbo

A lot of it is because it’s 4K being stretched to hell. Even 8K might not be enough to get to today’s average 1080p quality. Yes, there’s compression, but it wouldn’t degrade the image to this extent.

  • mclaren777

Videos like this actually look really good with a VR headset.

It’s hard to appreciate them on a computer or phone screen.

  • RIT

I first watched the samples on my desktop PC and they were awful… but then I watched them on my mobile via the Youtube app and Oh.. my… gosh! They are full VR!! Move your mobile about and the view changes, and the quality is superb!
The Occulus Rift launches in March so we should get prices soon. I was asked by a chum at the weekend if I’d get a Nikon 360 and I replied no… but having seem the VR effect with these vids I’m pretty sure I will. Definately for the car anyway.
I hear that stock market investors reckon that 2016 will be the year VR matures, now I see why!!
It’s a fantastic action camera, and a game changer.

  • James

Sad…. soooo late to the party it’s not even funny

    • AlphaTed

      Toot late for 360?

  • Jirka

I dont understand, why are immages badly stitchet together. They make camera with two lenses in one body, but they arent able to adjust optics and software to stitch it correctly? Gosh….

  • AlphaTed

I hope this one has flourine coating.
And since you can’t put any protection infront of the lenses, needs to be scratch resistant as well.

    • pegdrgr

It looks to me like there already is a protective cover. If you look closely it appears to be a screw on lens cover, protecting the actual lens

  • 5DollarFootlong

Nikon shouldve smartened up and invested in the car and housing security market. Cars all have rear view cameras, that couldve been nikon. New houses all have security, that couldve been nikon.

  • ASice

is there any update on this?
