Three new Nikon compact cameras with 1″ sensor and different focal lengths coming in early 2016

1" sensor found in the Nikon 1 J5 camera

Some additional information on my post from few days ago - Nikon will announce three new compact cameras with fixed lenses that will have different focal lengths and apertures (something similar to the Sigma dp0-dp4 range of cameras). All three models will have a 1" sensor (all listed ranges are in 35mm equivalents):

  • Wide angle version: 18-50mm f/1.8-2.8
  • Normal range: 24-85mm f/1.8-2.8 (see lens patent here)
  • Superzoom: 24-500mm f/2.8-5.6

Some (or all) cameras will have a hot shoe and an optional/external EVF. I already mentioned that those three new Nikon models will be marketed as "always in your bag" and will be targeted for advanced/semi-professional photographers. I am not sure if they will be part of the Coolpix product line or Nikon will come up with a new name.

THAT’s super exiting !! I was always wondering why nikon couldn’t make small lenses like the sonys rx-100 and here they might have done it (about time) but I still don’t get why they can’t make those for interchangeable bodies…. such a shame

Any thoughts on an update to the P900? Perhaps with a larger sensor, RAW capabilities and hot shoe support? Thanks

I think that you are wasting your and our time. I’m not sure that Nikon will introduce Nikon 1 camera because nobody buy it and nobody care about this cameras. Nikon will probably bankrupt on this ‘project’ if they continue. I hope and I think that Nikon will introduce Nikon D850 with 42mp sensor, and maybe some APS-C mirorless camera who also nobody needs.
