Another deal… that will not appeal

      Are you kidding? $600 for a D90 + 18-105 kit?

They’re going used for that price. Getting it untouched and fully warrantied for the same amount of dough has a lot of appeal.

      • …this will only drive down the used price. No, the D90 has no appeal for more than $250 today. There are better cameras for the same or less. This for instance: with better video and sensor. Or this:

        • Those are both single command dial consumer cameras. I’d take the prosumer D90 with partial weather sealing and 2 wheels over a 1 wheel camera any day.

What’s the point of having a DSLR if you’re still fighting your way through menus to get the settings you want, while worrying about the damage a little rain might cause?

          • The D90 is NOT weather sealed. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It’s not a bad build, but having taken one apart, I assure you that it is not sealed like the Dx00 and above models. I can’t speak for the D7x00 models. I’ve had two, but I’ve never seen them opened up. But I’ve seen the D80 and D90 innards and the case is NOT sealed well at all.

I avoid the single dial models too, but in a pinch, they’re not that difficult to use. I could see getting used to one. The only show stopper for me is my screw drive lenses and a lack of vertical grip. But I shoot for a living so…there’s that.

            • The D70 and D90 are not as well sealed as a D7000/D600 – which are not nearly as good as the D200/D700/D4, but from my experience, they hold up remarkably well in rain/snow storms, and in temperature extremes.

But I’ve not taken a D90 apart, so I will defer to your expertise. Sorry for the error.

            • Oooh, I got curious and lo and behold, ifixit has quite a few Nikon model teardowns. Check it out:

For the most part, it’s just very clear that the major outer covers have no true seal design at the seams. There’s no tongue and groove or soft gasket of any kind. Just butt seams. Nothing confidence inspiring.

And the battery doors on ALL the models, even pro, are poorly sealed. They are incomplete seals and do not make 100% positive contact.

There are sponge gaskets on the seams of the integrated grip models’s battery covers, and those seem the best Nikon’s got. But if I were really worried about weather sealing, I’d pull those off and replace them with a bead of silicone caulk or something similar. Also, I’d make it more complete–there are gaps in the standard design.

In fact, when I needed my D2x to be weather sealed back in the day, I used some cheap window glazing material to seal the battery door. Worked a charm!

$380 for the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 is a fantastic deal.

The 4% off is the best deal I’ve seen (sadly). At least that will get me $50 off the D7100.

When you click on that Adorama link, the ad says $799 not $599.
    They must have revised it.
