i would take one, if it would be fx

    • AnthonyH

If you want it for FX…there are already 50mm fx lenses, including f/1.4, f/1.8 and even a manual focus f/1.2….

      • Fisheyland

He means an ultra wide f/1.8

        • Peter Walkowiak

too bad its not ultra wide, its about a 50mm equivalent…

          • Mansgame

focal length is the same no matter what the sensor size is. If they made the FX version of this lens, it would still be 18.5mm. It’d probably be very large if possible.

            • El Aura

And I wish Apple would release a FX version of iPhone camera lens, that would a really wide WA lens. Don’t you realise that in terms of technical similarities, FOV matters much more than focal length when comparing lenses?

  • Miccoh

Very nice lens btw. I got this on Wednesday and today I spent three hours with it in the woods.
There is no noticeable sharpness difference in apertures between f/1.8-f/5.6. Smooth surface is little bit odd compared to other Nikon lenses.
It focuses really close. I might even skip buying a macro because of this lens.
My reference “kit” is D800&50/1.8G so I am not comparing to some P&P 😉

    • bjrichus

“I got this on Wednesday and today I spent three hours with it in the woods.”

You might like to consider how you phrase some things… 😉

      • Cathy

Everybody is not native English speaker. What is wrong with that sentence?

        • bjrichus

It has some sexual innuendos as in “I spent some time in the woods with my lover”. As you say, an appreciation of double-en-tendre in a Monty Pythonesque way would help…

          • You can stick that criticism where the moon don’t shine.

            • tt

              like mars?

            • bjrichus

              So mature of you James…

      • AnthonyH

This is stupid; only someone with a puerile thought process would perceive it that way.

        • bjrichus

Almost as puerile as the Nikon 1 is to serious photography?

          • AnthonyH

Thus proving my point about a puerile thought process. Thanks for cooperating.

            • bjrichus

So something only just about as good as a D3000 (on a good day) is worth worrying about for serious use? Or is attacking criticism of the double-en-tendre your objective? Did you not pick up on the Monty Python reference? Did you not see the emoticon on my original comment? Are you without a full and complete grasp of the complex nature of English humor or are you so devoid of a sense of humor that you can’t see it when it slaps you in the face?

To Miccoh and Cathy, this is what is called in English “Sarcasm” and while not exactly a high form of humor, it has some merit to it.

            • AnthonyH

No, it’s just that most of us have a sense of humor above the third grade.

            • FunnyGuy

Speak for yourself. I aim for high second grade to low third.

            • rensuchan

Or some of us take life too seriously. Take your pick.

      • murdoc2009

bj, nobody gives a flying fck about that sentence. stop trolling over something that has nothing to do with the actual product.

      • bob2

LOL!!! I got the joke, the double entendre. Some have less humor than others, though. And it takes something higher than the 3rd grade to understand.

      • Miccoh

Yes, I am not a native english speaker. But the sentence is what I wanted and I think this joke went through better than I anticipated 😉

People think too seriously about the cameras ( like what most of these comments tell .. ). If I would be a full time pro, I would like a tool as a camera. D4 or maybe D800.

As a hobbyist I really like the Nikon 1 system. IQ is enough ( about the same as was with my D200 ), lenses are really good. Kit doesn’t weight anything and it can track moving targets.
Colors are way better than in Panasonic mft-cameras.
Electronic shutter mode doesn’t create vibrations.
        ( ).

Stop stressing about your cameras and lenses and especially others cameras and lenses. It’s the experience and the image what counts.

Have fun with your camera! ( spend time with it 😉

    • kokinbalz

I find it hard to believe there is no noticeable difference in sharpness. Perhaps just what you were shooting didn’t reveal this? Did you do a comparison of the same images? I am not promoting boring tests or being a jerk, but I find this remark a tad misleading.

  • JC

Spending your serious money on a not so serious system.

Whoever is in charge of R&D needs to get their head checked.

    • Mansgame

This system is becoming the butt of the jokes now. I’m not a fan of mirrorless but at least others tried to have a good camera.

      • gsum

Is it? The V1 and 20-50mm lens is down to about £260 now, excluding the £50 cashback. Given this camera’s reasonable IQ, largish pixel pitch and high speed continuous shooting. it’s starting to look much more competitive.

The main problem was the stupidly high original price.

        • Micah Goldstein

…whether the price was an issue or not, many of the things that they have done with this system are software issues, and could be altered cheaply. Features can certainly justify price, and Nikon has gone light on the feature end.

No in body stabilization, no hardware manual focus, video clip limits–these are issues too. But compare something like the panasonic GX1, and you’ll see that most of the differences are software. The GX1 is a much more usable camera. Even without the EVF.

  • Plug

Acceptable bokeh apparently, I think I like this lens.

    • lorenzo

… but unacceptable focusing on the raspberries and cream, was it intentional?

      • gsum

The photographer has focussed on the nearest object to the camera. Any other focal point would not have worked for this composition. I don’t understand your point.

        • lorenzo

I don’t see anything on focus in that picture; which nearest object do you see on focus? No problems with the flower instead.

  • Micah Goldstein

    Where’s the focus ring?

    • 800mm f/2.8 DX VR

At the front, near the hood attachment thingy

      • Micah Goldstein

BZZZZZt try again. That doesn’t move. The answer is that there is none. None for the entire system. This kills it for anybody but the point and shoot lot, with very few exceptions.

I’m still amazed they did this. Much like PSAM modes on a DSLR–it does more damage to usability to omit it, so why not leave it there, even for people who won’t use them?

        • Micah Goldstein

@admin is there a way to prevent auto-subscription to a thread when commenting?

          • As far as I know, there is no auto-subscription.

            • Micah Goldstein

Every time I leave a comment with Disqus, I have to manually click to unsubscribe. There is no place to alter any settings. There may be if I actually sign up for a Disqus account–but isn’t that the point of using Disqus? That you don’t have to sign up, you can just use a login from another social media site?

Anyway, it does auto-subscribe to any thread I comment on by default, and I can’t seem to change that.

For reference, I’m signing in with google.

            • Is anyone else having this issue? I have to test it by signing with Google.

In the previous post I thought it was for full-frame. I would’ve jumped all over that haha.
