  • But I want it All, and I want it NOW!

Lol, sorry I couldn’t resist. Laugh or Cry, right?

    • Banned

I was saying all along this was going to be a Coolpix-only announcement. No way Nikon is going to mix up Coolpixes and lenses in the same announcement. Makes much more sense to group with another related announcement, DSLR(s)!!!

      • Banned, you got to talk to me! Hit the “Send tips link” and gimme the goodies. Actually I know about the goodies, just give me the final date – I know it should be in the next few days.

        • WoutK89

Hehe, I think he is just talking…, just like Thom, we are all guessing. If he would have known, why didnt he just send the details already?

          • twoomy

Because it’s a SURPRISE!!! πŸ™‚ The way everybody talks about the BIG SURPRISE, I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t know what the inside joke is…

          • WoutK89

The joke is, there will be no surprise, wouldnt you be surprised if thats the case? πŸ˜‰

          • SZRimaging

So the joke is just like the cake? There really is no cake?

          • WoutK89

I know about: “there is no spoon”, but no cake? πŸ˜›

          • SZRimaging

It is a video game reference. Apparently I am just a bigger nerd than you are.

          • THE CAKE IS A LIE!!! πŸ˜›

        • rhlpetrus

What are them then (the goodies)? Is this a rumor site or not? Are you on NDA as well :(?

          • 2 new lenses – discussed several times here on NR – 24mm f/1.4 and 16-35 f/4 VR, not sure about the teleconverters:

          • rhlpetrus

Thanks, I thought something more was on the pipeline.

          • this is what I feel comfortable with for this release – of course there are many other rumors, but I don’t think they will happen. I could be wrong. The bottom line is – I don’t think we will see a new DSLR and the EVIL system will be for Photokina.

        • Highlight

Hi, I also said only Coolpix and al little unexpected surprice. Don’t bother if your are looking for a D700 replacement…
But I expect this year (Q1, Q2?) Nikon will come with such a new camera design that all the Coolpixes doesn’t matter anymore. The two things wont go together in one show.

          • WoutK89

            A hotpix? πŸ˜›

hey , that was my official joke actually, my joke sould be copyrighted !!! :):):)

but wait, here’s the new NIKON COOLPUX CAMERA-LINE, WAAAY BETTER !!!

  • mnm

    It has NOT begun

    • it will begin…

      • mnm

        But begun it has not…

        • nikkor_2

If not begun, it will begin

          • Begin it shall and begin it will if begun it not.

          • Has it unbegun?

      • aetas

Its beginning to be time for me to put the beer back in the freezer get the camera out and wait till summer. Was really crossing the fingures for a new d700 replacement

        • jcg

You keep your camera in the freezer?…..:)

          • denz

yeah, he keeps it for LOW NOISE HIGH ISO, lol…

    • Global

Undone. None begun — un-fun. Not done??

  • yoda

    But begin, it will.

    • mnm

It must begin before it has begun

      • nikkor_2

Yes; of course, that’s it! Begun it not, begin it will!

  • YOuR NaMe HERe

But the beginning would only cause another end… or would it?

    • mnm

But to end, it must by definition, begin, which according to earlier posts, has not happened yet!

  • Anonymous

it has to begin before it can begin again and then we will not miss what has begun because we will be anticipating a new beginning

    • mikel

      Wat have you smoked today?

  • Steve

so ? no new nikkors ?

  • Roger

Nikon’s waiting for Canon’s pitiful announcement before unleashing the DAGRON!

    • David

It seems 60D to be announced on Feb 04, same sensor as 7D.

    • Jim

      what’s a dagron?

      • enesunkie

The new line of EVIL cameras?

  • mnm

IT HAS BEGUN!!! (ie my preparation for bedtime)

Good night, all yee faithful beginners and begunners.

  • dude

D4 pls. d3s up to iso3200 still nothing much different than the old 5D.

  • Charles

Can anyone give me directions to the nearest store to purchase a Canon 5D?

    • enesunkie
      • Global Guy

        Get a D3s. Its a lot better.

    • Ken Rockwell’s Dog

You can pick ’em up at charity shops these days.

  • fotosniper

    spaceballs the movie!

  • My movie ended at 12.01 !
I go to bed now, good night.

  • yoda

The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future is.

  • Peter

Nikon has 2-3 days tops – in 1 week I will be off to purchase a camera from a manufacturer that actually has ‘half’ a clue when it comes to HD video on an SLR. I fear I wont be the only one…

    • low

      ok see yah!

    • Segura

You do understand that even with an announcement, you would be lucky to get one until late March? Enjoy your Canon . . .

    • tim

You people must have 1 lens..

      • WoutK89

        D40 with 18-55 II ? πŸ˜›

        • Zorro

A great combination. But where is the rumored D40s?

          • WoutK89

            its called, D3000 I am afraid (D40xs)

  • Ubiquitous

    Paraphrasing Sir Winston Churchill:

This is not beginning of the end and not even the end of the beginning, but just the beginning of the beginning, maybe.

    • Kris Kristofferson

And I believe Sir Winston Churchill was paraphrasing the ending of Millenium, the 1989 sci-fi movie.

    • fxed

The beginning of the beginning. lol

“This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
      Winston Churchill (November 10, 1942)

  • fotosniper

“America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, badass speed.” -Eleanor Roosevelt, 1936

  • Ubiquitous

One thing that I have to admit to is that those CoolPixs come in CoolColors making them Cool like in Hot. They are really bad like in really good.

  • However, we must all agree that Nikon operates on a continuim – from a beginning to whatever. Moreover, they really pi$$ me off!

  • F-stop

so now everything is going to be 14mp?….I bet that was the D700x will be….here we go………

  • Ubiquitous

Good news for me, though. No 24mm f/1.4 – Good! Pushes me closer to the Tokina 11-16. It is not that they are compatible, but limited amount of money, on my end. One or the other, but not both.

    • F-stop

Go get the 11-16 you cant go wrong..and we dont even know what the 24 1.4 will bring to the table as in sharpness etc…11-16mm we know what it can do …

    • Char

Uhmmm… nice comparison. You would have the 500$ or 600$ to purchase a Tokina 11-16, you would have the 2000$ to purchase a 24/1.4, but you wound not have the 2500$ to purchase both?

      • F-stop

woah the price point for the 24 1.4 is 2K?…really?…

        • Ken Rockwell’s Dog

At least. I hope it’s more, so plebs can’t have it and it will appreciate in value. I can also tell everyone how great it is, even if it’s shite.

  • F-stop

this is why Nikon owners go buy you say 5D!

    • WoutK89

But the Jokes on you, who wants the 5D, when there is the 5DmII? πŸ˜‰

      • Gerry

        who would want either?

      • F-stop

lol thats what I ment 5DmkII but what we really want is a new DSLR….dont understand why the released the 300s with the 7D …the 7D just make nikon look like they were a step behind….those two camera are in two different classes..

        • Ken Rockwell’s Dog

Your damn right about a different class. The 7D is a pile of shite.

  • HenryB

If you say “A”.. you got to say “B” also…!

  • Guy

Come on Nikon… I am about to drop $10,000 On a full frame camera and lens. Bring out the D700 replacement please. I do not want to make another noisy image or shoot with with these slow Tamron Lens.

    • Segura

Noisy image? You must not have a D700 now . . . just get one and be done with it

    • low

do you have a canon? hehe

    • tim

A D700 and a Tamron? WTF? I owning a Nikon is all abot being able to get Nikon glass?

      • Guy

Tim, I currently own the D80 which can not shoot ISO 400 without NOISE!!!!!! My wife and I just paid off our house and I am going to do a major upgrade to my camera gear. I do not even want to go on any trips with this current gear because the final images just makes me sick. I am not buying the D700 when the replacement is SO close to being release. We hope!!!!

    • PHB

I am about to drop a squintillion dollars on fifty million 85mm f/1.4 lenses provided that they have AFS.

Build that into your marketing plans now Nikon! We all know that the best place to do market research is to take note of what is said by anonymous whack-jobs in the most ludicrous comments in the threads on rumor sites.

If people think that Nikon is too slow in the DLSR space, take a look at Canon’s pro-Camcorder offerings and compare/contrast to the consumer Vixia line. For $10,000 you can buy a TAPE BASED camera – bwwaahhahahaha. The whole line has been obsolete trash for over two years now and they probably won’t even think about a change for another couple of years. That despite the fact that Compact Flash drives that are faster than tape have been readily available for years.

Canon isn’t going to do anything to update that line because they know that the whole sector is going to be obliterated by EVIL type combo cameras. So in the meantime the $500 Vixia camera sold at Costco is actually the better buy.

      • Guy

PHB, do you feel better now putting others down? Does it make you feel superior, stronger, smarter? For me as an amature photographer who is going from a D80 and Tamron lens to Pro level gear spending $10,000 is a lot of money for a hobby. I do not expect Nikon to be reading these post, I am just excited as a child on Christmas morming to see what is coming….

    • Richard

Buying an M9 and 50mm f1.4 ASPH Summicron are you?

  • No 24 f1.4 for the time being. Good. I can spend my $ on the 12-24 f4 as planned but not both πŸ˜€

    • WoutK89

Why not the 10-24? You get 2 extra mm in the long end, and similar build and optical quality?

      • Hi,
I considered the 10-24 as well but after some research found that there’s quite a lot of sample variation, and the samples I’ve seen weren’t so good. Perhaps I was just unlucky…
        Plus flare, distortion etc.

        But 12-24 is expensive I know…. πŸ™

        • That’s for the research part. I still need to go test out the lenses before the final answer πŸ˜€

          • WoutK89

Isnt the main problem, that the 10-24 is already about 20% cheaper than the 12-24? So, isnt that even more reason to go with the 10-24 (when you find a good sample…)

          • That’s true, if I find a good copy and it’s cheaper by 20% πŸ˜€
But if it’s a bad copy but 20% cheaper, don’t think I’ll get it. In any case, I also need to look if the 12-24 i’m testing is a good copy :p

    What about the smoke monster?

    • john locke

    • Gerry

The smoke monster is in the form of John Locke!

      • fotosniper

question is, who was the smoke monster befor locke died?
and what hapened to clair on the island.
and who is that chinese dude?
        so may questions
YO NR admin you need to start a lost thread

        • SZRimaging

Darn it! I haven’t watched the premiere yet. You jerks!

  • Blago

I don’t get most of you , wondering between super-wide DX zoom and the eventual 2-3times more expensive only-wide fullframe 24/1.4 ?

    • WoutK89

They must really understand photography, dont you think so? πŸ˜›

nikon is a no show… Canon here I come

    • Rofl!
Fanboys have been saying that before all of Nikon’s major generation launches.
We will not see anything really exciting until D4/D4x/Dxxx series, but then it will be revolutionary. Mark my words.
That shift won’t occur until 2011, so in the meantime we’ll only see tweak upgrades like the D700x/D900 and a D3Xs the upcoming year. Not much, but sufficient, since most of you are forgetting that Nikon still has the leading FX studio camera AND the leading FX press/sports camera.

  • Marcel

Who cares about these Coolpix camera’s. We are waiting for serious primers and a D700 replacement (or a D4 something). Nikon keeps being anoyingly slow updating their stuff. Probably to squeze out every possible penny out of their old crap ….

    • WoutK89

Did you read, March, wait a little longer πŸ˜‰

  • Bob

The thread was about waiting. Ok I’ll wait………………………………………not sure how long…………………..

  • a D700 replacement would be fantastic as i have a D3 and im looking for a second camera im seriously considering the 300s if no update comes along , so a D800 with 21mp iso range of the d3 hd video all wrapped up in a pro body as i hate having to buy those add-ons i.e battery grip, id love a D3s but the price will have to drop at least Β£500 before i sweat about 1.
i’ll sell the house and rent a small flat if the D3Xs with improved iso & HD video 1080 is announced ! a no dream on
gear lust ya can’t beat it

    • Dr SCSI

Jason, we will see D700X or D700S this year, probably the D700S (at Photokina) as Nikon will not want to canabalize the D3X sales. Then Nikon will anounce D4 in the 2012 summer, followed by a D800X or D900. We probably won’t see 21MP in the smaller bodies for a long time, you will most likely see 18MP first. I too want a High ISO camera, at least two stops better in quality than my D3.

  • Davpino

    I want the surprise!
Begging for months now, that Nikon brings out an EVIL!

  • I hope it will be more… πŸ™

  • eru

I really hope for some more news because my D700 does not make good pictures anymore!

    • Av1ator

Interesting, cause my d300 still makes excellent pictures want to trade?

    • Anonymous

If you cant get good picture out of a D700 you’re using it wrong. Tried switching it on?

  • Geoff

These new Coolpix’s now take better images than my D700 so I now need a D701

  • I think Admin is as disappointed as many of us :p

  • David

The S8000 seems to have become more beautiful since I last saw it a few hours ago. If it gets more beautiful tomorrow, I will forget the LX3.

  • What?? Still no 85mm f1.4 replacement?? I’m mad! As a doorknob!

  • RumpelHund

    Nikon gimme 24/1.4!

    • BenS

There will be more ??? hmm Im thinking yes… there will be more + surprise… A 18 MP COOLPIX with a 24mm f1.4 lens πŸ™‚ hits 3 birds with one stone … cheap, more MP , fast lens πŸ™‚

Wtef, Nikon enuff with the COOLPIXes already !

      • BenS

oh i forgot the other bird, the Surprise CoolPix also has 1080 HD video to Satisfy those who wanna jump to canon

        • RumpelHund

How about a exchangeble badge to make switching nikon and canon much easier AND one can stick with the nikon lenses.

          That would be a surprise!

  • alvix

mmmmhhh..I woke up with high hopes..just to see this bunch of coolpix..?…I’ll sleep until next press release…ahah! πŸ™‚

    • mad

pls nikon bring out a new pro camera for sports – tested the d3 against the mark IV – more pixels plus the crop means for pics shoot on the other side of the pitch: a much better quality for canon …. a d3x as fast and as low noisy like the d3 would help all the sportsshooters … its a world cup year!

  • Anonymous

nikon had the chance to be a cool…. they missed the boat.

I really think it’s time for nikon to sack Hiroshi Takashima if they want to be around in 10 years.

  • yeah, so what?!

    stop posting nonsense

EVEN THE GH1 IS BETTER THAN THE 7 D YOU FULLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • ghettojackhocrak

  • Gordon

I really hope Nikon’s next DSLR announcement is sporting something more then a 12MP sensor, even the Coolpixes are using these now.

    • Mike

Do you really believe that a 14 mp P&S camera has better image quality than EITHER a 12 mp DX or FX DSLR? Do you? Really? If you do, then you are wasting your money on DSLRs. If you don’t, then you’ve just wasted energy on typing such dribble. Who cares if P&S get to 20mp? A D2x will still outperform it.

  • Anonymous

    14 MP 24MP & 48MP IS IT ENOUGH??????

  • Ole

    Hello everyone from Germany…
I wish, that Nikon brings it all together in one (Semi)Pro-camera (aka MK II-Killer ;-)), because every current model has it’s own strengths and weaknesses, like: D300s photos are great – but no 1080P, no fullframe, low ISO; D700 great camera also – but no film at all; D3s… expensive, only 720P, no variable framerates for video… etc.etc. I have to finish a HD-documentary until end of june… and if there was a Fullframe, 15-25MP, 1080P, 24-30fps, AF-S for video, high-ISO-Camera (D700xs, D800,D900)… damn! I bet, the whole corporate-communications-film-folks wouldt go crazy (me included!). The Movie-Mode in DSLRs is such a great revolution for all the DOPs who can’t afford a Hollywood-style-film-camera like RED ONE or HDCAM SRs like Arri or Sony… 35mm-Filmstyle DOF for under 10 K… everyone is waiting for the first DSLR that doesn’t have all these AF/framerate/etc-bugs… and most of them go Canon, because of the lousy 5D MK II… πŸ™ Nikon is loosing a lot of market share here. (Btw… with REDs Scarlet, there’s maybe another strong competitor for Nikon and Canon… but it’s compatible with Nikon lenses..!)

So… thanx admin for your great work… we’ll have to wait β€ža few daysβ€œ

  • Sash

    Few days? Or untill March?

Btw, how much chanses is that Nikon release next d700 with movi etc.. and that price will be under 2000 $ ?

    • WoutK89

    • MirrorSeeFool

What are the chances that you are magnanimous and wealthy enough to purchase me a D3x?

      • Sash

Would you like one? πŸ™‚ Will buy two, one for me and one for you πŸ˜‰

    • Ken Rockwell’s Dog

      Less than nil.

    • W8n4D900

NILL, nada, zip, zero, fat chance, bwuaahaaaaaa. You are kidding, right?
The D700 is still over 2,000.

  • Dmitry

Seriously my firends – 17-35mm f2.8 is perfectly good at f4 and fairly small – VR in this range is not too useful. Do you really think the new 16-35mm, if real, will cost under $1000 that you can get a used 17-35 for?
24mm would be nice, but also honestly very few people actuially need it and would pay $2000 for it. Those who do probably already own the canon one.
    Just my take on this.
I still do not believe these two are coming soon.

    • WoutK89

people that just NEED 24mm, already have the PC-E!

      • Ken Rockwell’s Dog

Yes, but they don’t ‘need’ the f3.5 aperture. You can also find 24mm on other lenses, but not with that nice fat, light-swallowing hole in them.

        • WoutK89

Let me rephrase, people that NEED just 24, already have the 24 PC-E.

I know you can get it on other lenses too, but also as sharp as the PC-E (I though these were the sharpest primes)?

    • rhlpetrus

The point is: it’ll lighter, just that, not an IQ issue. Price will be ok, around 1,000USD, like the 12-24 f/4. The extra 1mm below, although not a big difference, is also welcome. This could be a very versatile WA zoom for those who take long hikes or walk while shooting (landscapers for example, or street photogs).

  • D300

You know what, I just realised that my D300 is the best camera ever. Coupled with 70-200mm VR it’s just amazing. DX format rules. Okay so there is no high ISO, but so what? It makes excellent images, 12mp is more than enough. I even like it more than D300s. D300 all the way!!!!! F&&k D900 or whatever – it will never happen anyway.

    D300 best camera ever.

    I’ll stop now…

    • Anonymous

      100% agree!!!!!

    • I was saying the same about my ex-girlfriend before I met my wife :o)

    • twoomy

I’ll give a thumbs up to that! But remember… not EVERYBODY needs to shoot at ISO 126,000,000 to do handheld shots in pitch black. Good ISO 200-1600 is just fine for many of us.

      • Dr SCSI

“Good ISO 200-1600 is just fine for many of us.” — Not me! Let’s see, numerous f/1.2 prime lenses with a D700 or just one good zoom 24-135mm f/4 and a camera (D5S) capable of low noise at 25,600 ISO. If I don’t need the razor thin DOF with f/1.2 in numerous primes at many focal lengths, I would rather just cary a capable zoom and maybe one or two fast primes for shooting in the dark. πŸ™‚

    • David

I use D300 1 yr+ now, don’t need 300s, would love a cheaper FF. I use AF28 f/2.8, AFS35 f/1.8, AF50 f/1.4, AF85 f/1.8 + SP90 macro most of the time. Would like the 28 f/2.8 replaced with newer version. (It is bad at night). Only used the 70-300VR 2 or 3 times last year, didn’t use the 55-200, sometimes use the 16-85VR or Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. The camera with me ALL the time is my cellphone. Would love to have nikkor lens & EXPEED on it!

    • Why do you like the D300 better than the D300s?

      • D300

I don’t know, maybe because it’s a discontinued classic, that will be always remembered as the best Nikon DX camera! I know that D300s is exactly the same, but .. it isn’t somehow. Movie mode doesn’t help it either. D300 is like the first love – forever special πŸ˜€

  • edward nafzger

Ha ha realy funny NR Admin we have to wait but Nikon also that we want to spend our money on 100-500 vr 3 or 200-400vr updated and others so i think i buy as soon as possible a D3s with later the updated d700 and pro lenses to come sooner or later

    • WoutK89

There will be no VR3, see your other post, why that will not be.
