Why is the countdown still running?

I really don't expect anything else to be announced today. There will be more, but not today. Most of the Nikon 1 press events scheduled in different countries will start in about an hour and this is probably what the clock was set to.

Today I purchased an Olympus. Not knocking Nikon, but nothing in the new models to interest me. Particularly the lenses.

I ALREADY bought a Panasonic GH2. And I love it. I’m still a Nikon fanboi, but m43 has my money for mirrorless.

Nikon needed to release this camera to fit into a specific market niche. It’s the “I have way too much money but I only want a P&S camera” market.

This evening, I have tried both Nikon’s mirrorless camera.
Nikon had an outdoor booth at Paris, in front of Museum of Modern Art George Pompidou.

Well, J1 and V1 just feel the same. The difference is that you can not adapt accessories on the the J1. The V1 has an electrical viewfinder, with a fairly low dpi resolution.

It was around 19:00 and weather was cloudy. Hence the camera automatically picked a sensitivity of 3200iso. Checking the taken photos on the LCD backpanel, I felt that the noise reduction processing was causing a noticeable loss of details.

As expected, the small sensor size and the low aperture of the lens (tested a 10mm ‘pancake’) makes it quite impossible to get a shallow depth of field, so I can not describe how bokeh renders.

I think I heard the price of the V1 is around 850 euros.
