DxOMark – is there a reason why we have to pay attention to them.

I was about to say the same thing, apparently the new 50 1.8D is far superior than the G version. This is certainly opposite to the review done by Photozone .de.

Typo: you mean the OLD 50 1.8D ist superior to the G version, right?

Admin do you expect the d800/d4 to arrive within next two/three months?

    • Posted August 28, 2011 at 11:28 am | Permalink

Do I expect them? Yes. Do I know that they will be released in the next 3 months? No.

One day, we will see the replacement for the D700/D4. Nikon is obviously more patient than most of the NR readers.
Can we expect some really new features like translucent mirror, electronic viewfinder, .. or will they surprise us only with some improved specs?

Personally, really new features such as the ones you mentioned kind of scare the heck out of me… To be quite honest, I’d rather see a refresher product to the D700 rather than something completely new.. The kinds of refinements I’m talking about would be maybe the following in the D700s/D800

      - 16 to 18Mp
      - one stop improvement in ISO range
      - dual CF or SD card slots (similar to D7000)
      - 1080/30p AVCHD video

Couple that with a few other, very modest, improvements all around and count me sold and happy for the next 3-4 years while Nikon tools around with “the next best thing”

Nikon lens bashing / camera manual bashing / grey market bashing rant was so wrong in so many ways. I bought my DSLR BECAUSE I could use all of my old lenses (except the 45mm Gn Nikor which I have not AI’d yet.) and that is only because it is tight enough that I don’t want to wreck anything on my new camera until I get it mod’d. The grey market stuff is fine with me though I am not sure I approve of the morality of making the grey market stuff in the first place (blasphemy! behold the sacred bottom line!) The manual thing I also have no problem with, I bought the camera, it is MY manual. If they want another manual let them buy it from Nikon! Chuckle head still does not get that the ‘F’ mount is the best thing since sliced bread in the photography world.

I typically avoid RC and beta ACR,….even the RC has some weird,..potentially damaging bugs.

      One version a while back,..CS3 or 4 maybe,…skewed colors,and had odd default sharpening,etc…totally taught me a lesson.

I even wait a month AFTER the final still to this day.
