Another Tamron patent for Nikon 1 lenses

Tamron filed another patent 2012-189637 in Japan for a 40mm f/2 lens for mirrorless cameras with 1″ sensor (Nikon 1). The patent contains several different calculations for 30mm, 35mm and 40mm f/2 versions. Few months ago Tamron filed a patent for 35mm f/2, 40mm f/2, 28mm f/2 and 38mm f/2 lenses.

Nikon 1 V2 mirrorless camera will be announced next

Nikon 1 V2

Nikon 1 V2 mockup

The next Nikon announcement will be for the Nikon 1 V2 mirrorless camera. This is not a surprise after the huge price V1 drop reported few days ago. Similar to the J2, the V2 will offer only minor improvements over the V1 (the V1 already has the 921k dots screen). There is some talk that the V2 model may have WiFi and GPS capabilities, but it is still too early to be certain about the details. Expect the official announcement before the end of 2012. This may not be the only new product introduction before the 2013 CES show that will take place in early January 2013.

Oh, and DX format is not dead yet.

No, the Nikon D4x is not coming any time soon

Several readers emailed me this screenshot from B&H website showing a listing for a Nikon D4x camera with 54.6MP. The listing is obviously a hoax, just like this Canon EOS 3D entry from few days ago.

At least one new Nikon camera to be announced by the end of 2012

I have already mentioned on several occasions (see this post and this post) that there will be one more Nikon announcement before the end of 2012. With the latest Nikon V1 price drop and a new wireless remote controller, I think we can assume that there will be at least one new camera announced in the coming months before the 2013 CES show (new remote controllers do not get introduced alone, they always come with new cameras).

Stay tuned, it ain’t over yet.

Remember Usain Bolt and the Nikon D4 pictures from the Olympics? The camera is now for sale

I am sure you remember the images of Usain Bolt taking pictures with a Nikon D4 camera at the London Olympics right after he won the 200m race. This very same camera is now up for auction on eBay. The current price after 27 bids is $6,455 and there are 6 more days to go (new D4 costs $5,950). The auction will benefit the Swedish Cancer Society.
