Nikon D7000 kit – what’s in the box

Several readers were able to buy the D7000 from Best Buy today. Many stores will get in trouble for not keeping their sells embargo (October 17th). I could not even see the camera in my local Best Buy and they had several in stock. I even talked to the manager and they told me to come back on Sunday.

Here are several unboxing pictures for those who did not get one today (thanks Larry N. and many others who sent in pictures):

Here is the proof

Taken at an unknown Best Buy store:

Again, don’t assume that you can walk into a Best Buy store today and buy one. They will be released for sale around October 17th or 18th, which are probably the embargo dates for all retailers. Some Best Buy stores may not have any, others may have only only 1-2 pieces.

Some BestBuy stores got the Nikon D7000 already, but you cannot see/buy it yet

As I mentioned few days ago, the first Nikon D7000 should start shipping any day now. Some BestBuy stores in the US already got their first shipment of D7000 cameras directly from Nikon few days ago in unmarked boxes with time sensitive dates on them (I believe this date is October 18th) – this is something like an embargo date for selling/displaying the camera.

Not sure how reliable this is, but someone mentioned on Amazon’s discussion board (user KevCon) that his/her camera was already shipped.

Hitler is not happy with the Nikon D7000 shipment schedule

Hitler rant videos are always fun, especially when they mention NikonRumors (this is one was done by the same guys who created the Nikon lenses iPhone app, warning: graphic language):

Amazon US probably sold out their first Nikon D7000 shipment in pre-orders. Currently, Amazon US lists Novemeber 15ht as the release date for the Nikon D7000 kit:

The rumor is that all major chains in the US got their initial D7000 shipment and could start filling pre-orders as early as October 15th.

Nikon D3000 and D5000 to be discontinued

Nikon D3000 and D5000

I got multiple reports from different countries that the Nikon D3000 and D5000 DSLR cameras are being phased out and will soon be discontinued. Some retailers were already told that there will be no future shipments of those models. The Nikon D90 and D300s will continue to be sold throughout the holiday season.

It is not clear if Nikon will introduce a new camera to replace the D5000 (it should basically be a D3100 with a swivel LCD display). Maybe Nikon will remove one of its DSLR models all together in order to free up some production capacity for a potential new model (EVIL?).

The D3000 was released in July of 2009, three months after the D5000.
