Look to the East

“Look to the East” by Michael Dees (website | Instagram | 500px):

It’s probably not customary to write a guest post about a dear love of mine.  It would seem incongruous with the technical jargon of the Bayer pattern, to speak of the affections, would it not?  Not to mention the fact that, as a Nikon aficionados and photography enthusiasts, many would spend their time elsewhere, rather than reading an autobiographical account of a loved one in my life.  I say this by way of introduction to prepare the reader for a mix of sorts: a mix of technology, of art, and as noted, of tender sentiments.

I suppose I’ve mislead you a bit for rhetorical flourish.  It’s in this: that I speak of no person, but a place.  Zion National Park is where I speak of, and in particular, of the East side of this spectacular park in Southwest Utah.  The East side of the park is, literally, a less sheer beauty than the more popular Zion Canyon.  The altitude changes are more gradual and the landscape more curvy.  Make no mistake that the canyon that the Virgin River has carved over so many years has beauty unparalleled.  It’s breathtaking and awesome.  The East side, however, has a more tranquil appeal to it.

Nikon SnapBridge for iOS to be released at the end of August

Nikon-SnapBridge
I received information that the iOS version of SnapBridge will be released at the end of August (will be available for download at the App Store).

The Android version was already released back in April. Nikon has been working together with Apple on SnapBridge for a long time (I first reported it in March, 2015).

Nikon SnapBridge is compatible with all of the latest cameras: W100, A300, B500, B700, A900, DL and D500.

All future Nikon cameras will be compatible with SnapBridge

New low price: grey market Nikon D500 now $1,699

Nikon-D500-camera-deal
Grey market Nikon D500 DSLR cameras are now selling for $1,699 on eBay. This is a new low price – $100 less from last week’s $1,799 listing.

Nikon D500 cameras with US warranty are currently priced at $1,996.95, while a $500 discount is available for the D500 + 16-80mm lens kit.

Nikon USA recently allowed some grey market models to be fixed at third party US repair facilities, but the D500 is still not on the list.

Grey market Nikon D7200 cameras are now priced at $749.

Nikon D3400 to come with an improved “Guide Mode”

Nikon-D3500-DSLR-camera-rumors
A quick update on the upcoming Nikon D3300 camera replacement – the new model will be called D3400 and will have a new 24.2MP sensor, Snapbridge connectivity and an improved “Guide Mode“. Expect the official announcement in the next few weeks before the Photokina show in September.

It remains a mystery why Nikon skipped the D5400 and not the D3400 model name.
