NikonRumors Instagram account is back online, Meta: “We’re sorry we got this wrong”


The original NikonRumors Instagram account I had for over 15 years is now back online after it was deleted by Meta without any warning or explanation in August last year. This is the email I got today:


Meta must have realized their mistake becuase when I requested a review last year, I was automatically denied and the account was “permanently disabled”:

Nikon at the 2024 CES show


Nikon does have a booth at the 2024 CES show that will take place next week in Las Vegas (January 9-12). I do not expect any major photography products to be revealed – we may see a new lens (Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S or Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/3.5-6.3) or in the best case a camera development announcement, but I highly doubt that. This dedicated CES site talks only about a new digital imaging microscope:

More new/upcoming Chinese lenses for Nikon Z-mount


Viltrox will announce the Nikon Z-mount version of the AF 20mm f/2.8 lens in 2024 (the lens already exists for the Sony E-mount).

 
Meike will announce another new AF 50mm f/1.8 full-frame autofocus lens for Nikon Z mount in January 2024.


The Yongnuo YN 11mm f/1.8S DA DSM WL lens for Nikon Z-mount will be announced in January with a price tag of around $25o.

“TOKYO — Nikon, Sony Group and Canon are developing camera technology that embeds digital signatures in images so that they can be distinguished from increasingly sophisticated fakes.

Nikon will offer mirrorless cameras with authentication technology for photojournalists and other professionals. The tamper-resistant digital signatures will include such information as date, time, location and photographer.”
