Do not expect the promised CFexpress firmware update for the Nikon Z6, Z7, D5, D850 and D500 cameras to be released before November

Here is the answer from Nikon support to a question about the CFexpress memory cards firmware update for the Nikon D500 camera:

In regard to CFexpress support being released for the D500. We know that yes this will be a firmware update, but we can not release any information in regard to this due to the CF express update because the cards are not on the market and scheduled to be released in November of 2019

It seems that Nikon is waiting for CFexpress memory cards to become available and then they will release the promised firmware update for the Z6, Z7, D5, D850 and D500 cameras.

Nikon Z50 APS-C mirrorless camera additional information

Some new/additional information on the upcoming Nikon Z50 APS-C mirrorless camera:

Nikon Z50 price: €900 in most European countries (around $980)
Nikon Z50 kit price with the new Nikkor Z 16-55mm (or 16-50mm) f/3.5-6.3 VR lens: €1,100 (around $1,200)
The Nikon Z50 will have a rear screen that can be tilted downwards for selfies but it will not work with selfie sticks
4k video
Maximum shutter speed: 1/4000
The Nikon Z50 will be a direct Sony a6400 camera competitor

Previously reported Z50 specifications:

20MP APS-C sensor (based on the D500 sensor)
Single SD card slot
3″ pivoted LCD
11 fps
No IBIS
Fixed EVF (not removable EVF as described in the latest design patents)
New Nikon EN-EL25 battery
Announcement date: October 10th
The official announcement could be as early as next week
The Z50 will be the equivalent of the D7xxx DSLR cameras
Two new APS-S mirrorless lenses: Z-Nikkor 16-55mm f/3.5-6.3 and Z-Nikkor 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3
The Nikon Z50 will look very similar to the Nikon Z1 prototype camera – it was described to me as a smaller version of the Z6/Z7

My personal guess is that Nikon will show a new Nikkor Z APS-C roadmap and I think we will finally see some prime DX lenses – something we missed in the F-mount lineup (please note that this is just my personal guess, I have no reliable info on that rumor).

Nikon announcement on October 10th: Nikon Z50 with two DX lenses, Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens and maybe the MB-N10 battery pack

Nikon will have a new product announcement on October 10th, 2019 (±1 day because of the time difference, I think for the US the announcement can be expected on October 9th before or around midnight EST). I expect several new products:

Nikon Z50 camera with two new lenses (all APS-C)
Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens with a price tag around €8,000 – €9,000 as I already reported back in August (US price is expected to be around $8,000). I certainly hope I am wrong about the price.
Nikon MB-N10 battery pack – I am still not sure about this one.

Of course, there is always room for a surprise, but if there is one, I don’t think it will be anything major. I prefer to be conservative and enjoy the surprise, instead of overpromising and then disappointing all [NR] readers. Stay tuned for more Z50 info (still putting the post together).
