New Nikon rebates in Europe, Nikon USA to follow next week




Nikon started a new rebate program in Europe where you can get up to €1,000/£900 on selected cameras and lenses (including the Nikon Zf):

In the US, Nikon will start a new rebate program on October 29 (the Z8 should be $500 off again). For details, check Adorama, B&H Photo, Paul’s Photo, and Service Photo.

NEF Codec 1.31.4 and NRW Codec 1.9.0 released

 
New versions of the NEF/NRW codecs were just released:

  • NRW Codec v.1.9.0: fixed a vulnerability related to buffer overrun during file loading (CVE-2024-8025)
  • NEF Codec v.1.31.4: fixed a vulnerability related to buffer overrun during file loading (CVE-2024-8025)

The NRW and NEF codec modules allow NRW/NEF (RAW) files to be handled as their JPEG and TIFF equivalents in a Windows environment.

Getting closer to a new Nikon camera announcement

We are getting closer to a new Nikon camera announcement. How do I know? Nikon UK currently has a placeholder for a new camera. On their website, they are currently showing listings for a total of 12 mirrorless cameras:


Now scroll down to the bottom of that page and count the total number of cameras displayed – they are only 11:


Basically, Nikon already has a placeholder for a new/upcoming camera. That is a common practice for Nikon, and we have already seen similar behavior before:
