A quick giveaway (#5) while we are waiting

Update #2: the winner is Camille Miller.

Update: this giveaway is now closed. The winner will be picked shortly by the forum mods here.

You can win this Nikon D300s book by David Busch (bibliography | more info). The rules are simple – just leave a comment to this post. I will close all comments on the day Nikon makes its next announcement (probably Tuesday, February 9th @ midnight) and will randomly pick the winner. Of course I don’t believe in “US only” giveaways and I will ship this book anywhere in the world.

More giveaways are coming soon. Stay tuned!

Fine print: The contest is void where prohibited by law. All taxes are the responsibility of the winner. NikonRumors.com is not responsible for anything.

“To be revealed” Nikon @PMA banner – Busted!

New Nikon banner/teaser:

Now, this doesn’t appear to be a paid banner since it doesn’t link to any website. The image was clearly taken from the Nikon D3 press release kit.

I say this rumor is busted.

Canon’s advantages (1080p video in DSLR and G11) will end soon

credit: KameraBild

KameraBild (translated) published a video interview with Johan Kling, the head of Nikon Sweden. Some interesting comments:

He think that it is “highly likely” that future Nikon DSLR cameras will have both 720p and 1080p video.

He also talked about the gap in the high-end Nikon compacts segment (think Canon G11 or EVIL). The Nikon P5000 and P6000 has not been a success. Nikon Sweden seems to be convinced that engineers in Japan are working on a new model to successfully compete in that category.

The bottom line of this interview (form NikonRumors perspective) is that Canon currently has advantage with 1080p video in DSLRs and the G11 model and this will end soon. I say cheers to that!

I aways struggle with translation. If anyone has a better translation, please post it in the comments section and I will update this post. Thanks.

Detailed translation after the break (thanks Andreas):

Rumor: Nikon D4 will be tested at the 2010 Super Bowl and Winter Olympics

This is not really news (since we may never know) but rather a call to everyone that will be attending those events (Super Bowl is in Miami on February 7th and the Olympics will take place in Vancouver from February 12th-28th, 2010) – keep your eyes open for a disguised Nikon body and send me some pics if you find something suspicious. I’ve been told that the next generation Nikon D4 will be floating around (few months ago I already wrote about D4 prototypes being field tested).

UPDATE: Sorry, a reader just clarified this t to me – the picture below is from the Salt Lake City Olympics and not from Vancouver – see the whole article @ sportsshooter.com (photo by Bill Pekala/NPS).

And since we are talking about the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, a reader sent me this cool picture of stored Nikon equipment ready to be deployed to the games (my guess is through NPS):
