Will the Nikon 1 V3 use the new Aptina 14MP 4k sensor?

Aptina announced a new 1″ 14MP sensor (AR1411HS) that can output full 14MP resolution at 80fps and is capable of shooting 1080p at 120 fps and 4k video at 60 fps. The official press release (attached below) describes a “strong interest from several top camera companies that have sampled the image sensor”. Since Nikon uses Aptina sensors in their mirrorless cameras and you can already take short burst of 4k video with the V1, I would not be surprised if Nikon announces the V3 mirrorless camera by the end of the year with 4k video recording capabilities.

First images taken with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens are out

The Korean website lcap.tistory.com published many sample images taken with the just announced Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens. The post also contains distortion, light fall-off and “starring” samples. The photos are taken with a Canon camera, but you can get an idea about the performance of the lens. Another post shows the lens coverage when used on a full frame camera (Canon 5D Mark II).

It’s real: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens announced

The rumors were true: Sigma officially announced the world’s first 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM zoom lens:

SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM is the first zoom lens ever to achieve a maximum aperture of f1.8 throughout the zoom range. It is a wide aperture, standard zoom-lens for digital single lens reflex camera’s with APS-C size sensor’s.
The lens has a focal range equivalent to 27mm – 52.5mm in a 35mm format and it can cover the angles of view of multiple fixed focal length lenses. This wide aperture, standard zoom lens enables the photographer to expand creative possibilities on any occasion.

Coming soon: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens for Nikon mount

Update: the lens is now officially announced.

A quick update from PhotoRumors that I think (if true) will be of huge interest for Nikon DX shooters: Sigma is rumored to announce a new 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens for APS-C based DSLR cameras (27-52.5mm equivalent). That’s right, a constant f/1.8 zoom lens! I initially did not believe this report, but the Czech website Fotoradce just published detailed specs of the upcoming lens:

Next Nikon announcement: 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 lens

Nikon announced a record number of new products in the first quarter of 2013 and I have already mentioned that the next few months will be slow in terms of new product introductions. Expect the next wave of major announcements to come later this year (after August).

Now back to the next announcement: next month, probably around May 15th, Nikon will officially release their 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 mirrorless lens (equivalent to 86.4mm in 35mm format, Nano Crystal coating, see patent). The press photos of the new lens are already listed on Nikon USA website.
