Nikon USA is still trying to get rid of their Nikon 1 J1 inventory and this is the lowest price I have seen so far: refurbished Nikon 1 J1 camera with 10-30mm VR lens and Adobe Lightroom 5 software is currently listed on eBay for $149.99 with free shipping (Lightroom 5 is currently on sale for $80, but the original price is $136 – you are basically getting the camera+lens for free). Limited quantity available. White and red models are available. Shipping outside the US is available.

Next Nikon announcement rumored for May 15th

Nikon is rumored to have a new product announcement on May 15th. I expect this press event to be for the Nikon 1 S2 camera (14.2 MP sensor with 73 phase detection and 135 contrast detection AF points). Keep in mind that the S2 may not be launched for the US market. I am not sure if Nikon will also introduce the new Coolpix P700 and Coolpix P8000 compact cameras or there will be another Coolpix announcement at the end of the month.

→ The user’s manual for the delayed Nikon WR-1 wireless remote controller ($549.95) is now available online.

→ New $100 price drop on the Nikon D7100 (the new body only price is $1,096.95 at Amazon, Adorama and B&H).

→ The price of the D3300 also dropped by $50 (the new body only price is $596.95 at Amazon, Adorama and B&H).

Nikon’s Video Remote Control System from 1962

In 1962 Nikon produced the Video Remote Control System that could capture images on film and record video signal. This was a combination of a still and video camera into one (similar to the modern DSLRs today). The system even had an early type of ‘live view’ system with 800-line high-resolution 2:1 interlaced closed-circuit television system:

NikonRumors is 6 years old

Does anyone remember the old [NR] design? This is a screenshot from June 14, 2008. The pictured camera is still not announced 🙂

I almost forgot – yesterday NikonRumors.com turned 6 years old – the first blog post went live on May 1st, 2008 (you can see more old [NR] screenshots at web.archive.org).

Since then we had another 3,535 posts and 336,949 comments!
