CIPA’s October report is out


CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their October report (orange: 2019, black: 2018, blue: 2017, click for larger view):




For the month:

  • DSLR units shipped: 429K units (24.2% below same month last year. September was 453K.)
  • Mirrorless units shipped: 445K units (highest of the year and 2.3% above same month last year.  September was 418K.)
  • Compact units shipped: 597K units (23.6% below same month last year.  September was 621K.)

Calendar year to date:

  • DSLR Units  -33%
  • DSLR Shipped Value -42%
  • Mirrorless Units -8%
  • Mirrorless Shipped Value +5%
  • Compact Units -21%
  • Compact Shipped Value -17%
  • Lenses for smaller than 35mm Units –27%
  • Lenses for smaller than 35mm Shipped Value -25%
  • Lenses for 35mm and larger Units -13%
  • Lenses for 35mm and larger Shipped Value -2%
  • Mirrorless unit share (of Mirrorless + DSLR) 45.3% (was 37.5% YTD last year)
  • Mirrorless Shipped Value share 60.7%
