The ebay D800 is just some guy who expects to get his this week because his vendor tells him it will arrive this week. If he ordered from Amazon (or anyone else that is giving out clearly incorrect shipping dates), he can expect to get negative feedback when his buyer realizes he might not be receiving it for a month or two.

    • Joaquim Prado

Didn’t the D4 got shipped in time or dates changed a lot? I am expecting to/and most receive mine around april 17!!

      • Rob

I believe every Amazon D4 order says it’s shipping Tuesday, even if you order it right now. There’s absolutely NO chance Amazon will get enough bodies to satisfy all of their preorders. I doubt even 25% of their orders get fulfilled this week. For the D800 it could potentially be even worse, since we don’t even know for sure that ANY will ship Tuesday. At least some D4s have already shipped, so there is some evidence that Amazon will at least be getting an initial shipment in by Tuesday. We just don’t know how big it will be, other than “not big enough.”

        • Adrifter

Do we know if Amazon is really getting a shipment in on Tuesday? I sure hope so, since I ordered mine within 5 minutes of the link going live, but I’m doubtful. There was a camera store (perfect light & camera) that posted on the NR facebook page that no further D4 shipments were expected until April, after Nikon’s yearly inventory. I hate to say it, but this guy has been right about pretty much everything so far, and he seemed pretty confident in his source. Plus the fact B&H and Adorama are totally silent still. I ordered my spare D4 batteries from Adorama and haven’t heard anything from them yet. I’m not really sure what to think. I hope we here more tomorrow though.

        • Jon

My B&H D800 “order history” page just updated (Monday, Mar. 19, 9 am) from “back ordered” to “new order processing”, which is usually what it says in the morning 12 hours before a shipment (shipments seem to leave B&H around 8:30 pm). I placed my order on Feb. 7. Got my fingers crossed…

          • Joaquim Prado

            Good Luck!! Jon

I checked mine and nothing changed on ritz camera! But they garanteed I was in the first batch!

    • A month or two at least I would have thought.

  • GJ Canave

WOW I can’t wait to get that thermos! it would be a perfect tool for me to keep me warm on my night long exposure project 😀 thanks NikonRumors !

    • David G.

Congratulations! I’m glad to hear the prize was awarded to someone who will truly enjoy it!

    • cedricV

Always good to see it going to someone active

    • DouxBokeh

Does it have an “F-mount” to keep the camera warm ?

  • Jeff

PBS showed a great special on this, not only showing the environmental issues, but focusing on the photography and methods used.

“27 Nikon D200 cameras were used in the creation of the Extreme Ice Survey project.”

  • David G.

Can’t wait to see how the new Tokina 11-16 performs !

    • St.

YEah – does anybody know what’s the difference from the old one?

      • St.

never mind… I saw the previous article.

    • Simon

I was hoping for a definitive price of the 11-16 as I am kind of on the fence on whether or not to purchase the current one at $40 off or just wait and hope that the new one isn’t too much more than the old.

Of course I could and will most likely look for a used one to pop up locally. I think I’ll do that as I am not in too much of a hurry.

  • Brock Kentwell

I am the current high bidder on the 13mm. I will use it to make Instagrams. Please no one else bid on it

    • David G.

Ken Rockwell has an article about how to win at eBay. You’re doing it wrong.

      • Rob

That made me remember a google search led me to his site today. One page started with a section titled “Forget Resolution and ISO,” and then later in the page he recommends the D800 over the D4 because it has a higher resolution. I honestly can’t tell sometimes if he’s just a blabbering idiot or if his entire website is an attempt at trolling everyone.

        • Nikon Shooter

Considering the amount of traffic his site gets and the millions of dollars that he gets from affiliating/begging, he is probably the latter. It’s quite genius really: making money from trolling. So many people do it for free but get nothing except hate in return.

He is definitely not an idiot, but he definitely writes for idiots, because his articles won’t make sense to you otherwise. The rest of his readers are the haters caught up in his troll. Like I said: quite genius.
Just look at us talking about him now: absolutely nothing nice to say and yet we just drove someone new to his site.
          F*cking genius…

Rockwellian is a term in the process of establishing itself in the English language. It can be used to describe persons, things or statements where it is fundamentally impossible to decide whether they are foolisch or genial .

            • Anonymus Maximus

              P.S.: Above statement is Rockwellian

  • This just in: Nikon J1/V1 Firmware decoded/decrypted

  • Goolies

I pre-ordered a D800 on Amazon within minutes of opening, however, I’ve changed my mind and want to go for a D4 instead. Amazon says the D800 will be delivered by March 26th. What do I do, cancel the order? Wait for it, then sell it?

    • Nikonnut

Looking at that ebay posting if you wait for it and sell it you’ll make over a thousand bucks!

  • Jonny

The UK release date on Amazon UK has been the 26th for weeks now so no change

  • Zorro

    Just to help you guys out, I didn’t order a D4, D800 or D800E.

    • Kragom

      Thanks, that helped a lot!

      • Rudi

Not really, still waiting on my D4 🙁

  • Orilla

On Amazon.DE there is no release date for the D800. =(

Hat irgendwer in Deutschland / Österreich bereits eine Benachrichtugung erhalten, dass seine D800 ausgeliefert wird?

  • ennan

I would love to have that 13mm…

    • Anonymus Maximus

Be careful what you wish for. Are you aware of the weight it would add to your camera bag ?

      • ennan

With the amount I lug around already I doubt I’d notice!

Have a serious love for ultrawides and this is a gorgeous looking piece of kit. pretty sure my shoulders would be willing to take the extra strain. If only my bank balance would!

    • Jabs

One awesome and spectacular Nikon lens from the past – wish Nikon would bring it back, but it would be so expensive – ouch!!!

Once mounted it on a Nikon F3HP/MD-4 combo and it was huge and heavy, but looking through the viewfinder with the right focusing screen would make you wanna cry – lol.

Superb experience but has always been expensive.

NikonianPress – CLS – not worth the money.
Bought the first edition of this book just to find out that there is nothing in it what you wouldn’t know after reading the manuals. No deeper technical descriptions, no helpful howtos or tips and tricks.

For me it was booked under lost investments.

    • Land

Go for “The Hot Shoe Diaries” by Joe McNally if you want to actually learn anything about CLS.

I see a few comments about D4 and D800/E shipping, here’s the latest information I have as far as shipping is concerned.
The first shipments in the UK (other countries will be the same) will not come close to covering the pre-orders, the number of bodies in the first shipment are very small.
The retailers have no idea how many bodies they will receive from Nikon in the first or second shipments until 24 hours before the shipment is actually sent by Nikon. The retailers are very much in the dark, they could get a call from Nikon today saying we’re sending you 200 bodies or they might not get a call for another month…Nikon are not giving them any more information beyond that about stock.
I think you’ve got a better chance of recieving your pre-order sooner if you went through a smaller retailer rather than the Amazons and WEX’s…I know WEX has over 350 D4 pre-orders, I doubt they’ll get 50 in the first shipment.

  • Congrats to GJ! 🙂

  • jodjac

Not yet shipped, not yet shipped,
I check every thirty seconds or so
    and it’s not yet shipped!
    When they gonna ship?
    When they gonna ship?
    I wanna know,
    when they gonna ship?
Ship the D800, ship the D800
Go ahead and ship Nikon’s D800!

  • broxibear

Here’s a D800 that someone actually has and is selling on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikon-D800-36-3-MP-Digital-SLR-Camera-Black-Body-Only-/280847911076?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item4163d708a4
6 days to run, it’ll be interesting to see how much people are willing to pay for it ?

    • Toecutter

      …and already has 17 bids

  • doug

Chat earlier with Nikon UK chat:

Hi, my name is Fergus. How may I help you?
    Fergus: Hello Doug
    Doug: HEY FERGUS
Doug: im just trying to find out when are you expecting to ship the d800 to jessops, because they are clueless about anything
Fergus: The D800 is due for release around the 22nd of March. We do not have dates for individual stores receiving stock.
Doug: ok thank you very much for your time
    ‘Doug’ disconnected (‘Concluded by End-user’).

    fair enough.

  • doug
  • Jabs

Here is one reason why the D800 is so special and posted here by me a few times (forgive me).

    Any more questions then?

    Thought not – LOL!

  • Ren Kockwell

“Consider that for a second, here we have a camera that has better noise handling than what, not that long ago, was the best camera in the world for high ISO, but now we have it with 3x the amount of pixels. I can’t begin to explain how much that one thing changed my opinion of this camera around!” —-Richard Peters

I couldn’t have said it better myself. This seemingly brilliant move from Nikon drove me to spend $1K more for the D800 despite the fact that I was really waiting for a D700 successor. I think THIS is why the D710 was “bumped.” If it had come out first, I’d have bought it.
