  • D3000’s body already discontinued at B&H:

I’ll wait for the D3100 body only offer, no need for this lens.

HURRY rhlpetrus, without you it will not be Best Seller 🙂

Oh, you may want to revisit your last comment about this sensor in the D3100. Even Thom Hogan says that’s a sony.

Question for you rhlpetrus. Have you tried out the Sony camera with the NEX sensor? I hope the price of that thing will drop and if I need a video camera then I can pickup one for cheap. Using a Novaflex adapter and voila the Nikon lenses will work on it.

  • JonS

I usually buy from B&H but I pre-ordered from Amazon as B&H charges your card as soon as you place the order, who knows when we’ll actually see these lenses… Oh well, amazon it is 😀

    • Daniyar

That’s why when I pre-order stuff, I get it from Adorama. They don’t charge until it ships.

  • lolcatmaster FTW

There are always differences and in the end the design tweaks Nikon adds to the architecture of the sensor end up better if not look at the history:
A100 sensor sucks— D200 and D80 much better (sharpness, noise handling color rendition, etc.)
A700 sensor sucks—D300 sensor much better (sharpness, noise handling color rendition, etc.)

It is the same “wannabe” comment of Sony fanboys… like saying the Zeiss glass for the alpha mount is made by Zeiss (which it isn´t in Zeiss´ site there´s a faq explaining they only design them and they don´t manufacture it -Cosina manufactures the “Zeiss” alpha mount lenses-)…

So a big “MEH” to sonyalpharumours on this.

    • Abhinav

Well,I’m looking forward to Nikon D3100 ISO performance .

  • lolcatmaster FTW

The Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VR looks promising, I was just checking them out at Nikon´s website and the bokeh is ridiculously beautiful.

  • Abhinav

MC…see Nikon cannot claim that they are buying things from Sony

    • lolcatmaster FTW

They have been using Sony to manufacture their sensor since forever (excepting the LBCAST sensor of the D2H and D2Hs) it hasn´t never been a secret, that´s the only thing Sony is good for.

  • Rafael

I have to admit that sometimes Im to hard on Nikon and make strong criticisms etc.. but this time there is one thing to say

    T H A N K Y O U N I K O N

    for that beautiful 85mm f1.4 G..

  • klaus

No, my dear friends. This is not the begunning we are all waiting for so long.

  • Amien

sure, NOTHING HAS BEGUN… for yet 🙁

all I see is a SOCCER MOM camera with AF face tracking & irrevelant video (no mic plugin + AF motor noise = crappy soundy videos)

    • lolcatmaster FTW

Awwwww you want a D700/D90 successor with more megapickles to impress your friends on how much megapickles your camera has, you will never print beyond 8×10 but hey more megapickles are awesome right?????

Besides if you are thinking about good quality sound you should record it separately from the camera… you aren´t going to get any sound quality from the frigging camera :/… the only use the sound in camera has is to be able to use it as guide to sync your sound recorded separately…. you have seen those dudes with a boom and a mic on it right? they aren´t recording to the camera but to a specialized piece of gear…………

      • He/she might just print a little/lot bigger then you. or maybe they want to crop a little more then you. Why are you so hostile. Sorry…maybe you know amien.

  • Amien

” SOMETHING BIG ” was supposed to be coming : where is it Nikon ?

were is the new sensor technology ?
    The small FF Rangefinder ?
    The 1K FF camera ?
    The medium format nikon ?

    I just dont get it.

    • lolcatmaster FTW

It is in my pants but I can´t show you… it is private you know… Ok… I have a monkey living in my pants that has a tatoo that´says “Something BIG”

  • Denko

Oh drats… this will be an expensive autumn… bagging one 85 mm and one 28-300… The 85 mm shots are 16.7MP? So… is that supposed D90 replacement going to be FX? If this is the case I believe a lot of people will soil themselves.

    • Given the cost of producing FX sensors, and the already-projected price of the D90 replacement, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be FX.

But I’d be perfectly happy to be wrong about that. 🙂

  • Phillip

The sample images taken with new 85mm 1.4 at 1.4 & 1.4 have strong CA on the edges of the out-of-focus highlights. I don’t understand why Nikon chose to make it without any ED or AS glasses at all. Cutting corners won’t lead to any superior products.

  • Rafael

Admin any images of the 85mm f1.4 G with the lens hood on?

  • Bruno

$1049,95 for the 28-300? is that a joke?

    • Anonymous

Do you realize how much the Canon equivalent is? Designing a zoom lens like this is not cheap. Get over yourself.

    • lolcatmaster FTW

First of all this is a direct competitor of the Canon L version which means it is designed to have better performance than most of the cheap garden variety super zoom lenses which are made of compressed teabags and bubbles, a lens of that zooming caliber produces a LOT of problems because of the optical formula used to have such ginormous zoom range thus adding corrections so it performs better than a bottle of soda stuck on the lens mount of your camera isn´t cheap at all.

    • You mean its too cheap? 🙂

Had a look at the sample images.. WOW! Wide open its sharp!

  • Anonymous

Gonna wait till B&H sells the 85mm.
With 171.00 tax through Amazon it makes the lense an $1800 purchase.

    • JonS

Amazon charges you tax? That stinks….. what state? Never had them tax me when it’s from their own warehouse….

  • David

The 85mm f/1.4G interests me the most, but I wonder whether I really need that lens in view of my 135mm F/2.0 DC, which is a wonderful portrait lens too.

    • lolcatmaster FTW

Rent it whenever it is available and do a test drive to see if you like it enough to buy it.

      • I agree. If your going to make a $1700 buy maybe you should see how it preforms.

  • MCharlou

    The new 85mm 1.4G is 1899$ in canada 🙁

    • Amien

For 1899CAD, you may be able to buy the new D95 + Sigma 85mm 1.4 HSM !

      • lolcatmaster FTW

And have gorgeous front focused photos YES!!! wait……… what?

        • Amien

what a busy noob you are !

  • Pellevin

Some people like to complain. Nikon releases a cheap entry level camera with specs that in numerous areas beat or match Nikons pro level cameras and still you complain that it is outdated? Why not switch to Sony and keep quiet if you think they are so good. I have yet to find a Sony camera that beats their Nikon equivalent.

  • DaveyJ

Hey Guys! I would love to hear what anybody results with the new Nikkor 24-120 are on the D700! I have been using a 20-35 Nikkor and a 70-300VR on the camera but that mid zone I was not covering. Often the lack of mid range was not any big whoop but it would seem like a nice walk about lens. I also have thought about just getting a mid prime and know from NR there are a lot of guys (and gals) that know them and could advise what one to get. I should also say I tend to shoot somewhat stopped down for wider depth of field and know that may not be the best use of a 1.4 to 2.8 prime. I usually would opt for a lighter lens than a heavier lens since I usually stop down some anyhow and rarely use ISO 200 or even 400 on DSLR.

  • Henry Nikon Fan

Does anyone know if the 55-300 DX VR lens has a metal mount and a dust seal?

  • lolcatmaster FTW

OH the D3100 sucks! because it should be like the D3s at the half the price of the T2i… it should include gameboy DS games compatibility as well as an Iphone function… but what pisses me the most is that I expect a sub $1000 camera to have video features of a $3,000 camera!!!

How am I going to impress MM models with that camera?? HUH??? they are going to get so sad when I tell them that they can´t have nor all the raw photos and videos of my TFCD photoshoot and that they will not have all the copyrights like we used to do because the camera sucks… I wanted a 5D MKII fused with a D700 for 4.99!! DAMMIT!!!!!

I am going to hold my breath until Nikon does something about it like releasing more megapickles!!! or buying third party lenses which front/back focus!!!!!!

    • MCharlou

Yeah!! And the new 5D700 MKII is half compatible with most Canon AND Nikon lens !

      • lolcatmaster FTW

And, and, and it should be as silent as the Leica m9! and sometimes I want the shutter to sound like an Audi R8 rev´d to 8k rpm! with colors like the Pentax K-X I want a fuccia camera dammit!!!!

    • Kozłowski Artur

…..I am going to hold my breath until Nikon does something about it….

Thank the Lord one cannot suffocate from holding one’s breath. (because You pass out before) You would have been buried looooong time ago… 8^)

  • rawrf

    Here! The D3100 video sample!

  • Segura

So why is the 85mm listed as “AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f1.4G” . . . where is the slash in f/1.4G. Did some proof reader fail on this one? Why is it the only Nikon lens without the slash????

  • Chris

The new 85mm looks really nice, but I can’t imagine that this could be a pro-lens. Less than USD2.000,-! That can’t be true.

  • Anonymous

Anyone knows if 85/1.4 has any ED elements? It doesn’t say that it has any.

    • Kozłowski Artur

I’m sure it doesn’t. Nikon would have bragged about it otherwise.

  • DaveyJ

@lolcatmaster FTW: I think you should already be aware that I know the new Nikkor I mentioned is not available yet. I would surely wait well beyond the samples produced by Nikon and a few others. At this stage I have decided I am not buying the first released version. At some point I assume that the NR D700 users a d the D700 replacement followers (I am one of both subsets) eventually will get enough of us to give some of the more cautious their verdict before I buy. Right now I can operate fine with what I have but maybe next year I will add to my fleet of DSLR and FX lens (I am not buying any more DX lens as I have all of those I need from wide to telephoto. But I do thank you for pointing that out in this thread as few might not have known that….but I am not even sure of that. Following NR for even a few days and a few forums will give anyone patient enough to view a number of discussions a relatively accurate view of what’s what.

    • lolcatmaster FTW

OK what if I give you 10 internets and a cookie? (at least take the cookie it is more delicious than the internets).

  • DaveyJ

Apologies to all reading the above post which needed a little more editing. I tried to refer to D700 users (one group) and those waiting for the D700 Replacement (another group and that includes some of us that own the D700. I also TRIED to write that some may not know about the lens and body release and availability. I do think many do know these timeframes (I do and so does Lolcatmaster FTW) That is why I follow NR when I can especially right now trying to find out about D90 replacements or better and one more lens that I may need. I think the D3s forum is very useful but I am not buying one of those. I cannot justify owning one of those for my field use.

  • jay

    Did anybody post this?
Sample photos of the new lenses

  • Broxibear

Warehouseexpress are selling the body for £499 inc a free Crumpler Backpack and SanDisk 4GB Extreme Card for those interested.

  • David

Is there any indication that Nikon will update the firmware on the D7200 to enable use of the AF-P lenses?
