Update: a reader who placed an order for a Nikon D7000 kit on Amazon on October 7th, got an estimated delivery time of November 22-26, 2010:
"We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on October 07 2010 (Order#xxx): Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0 Inch LCD and 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens
Estimated arrival date: November 22 2010 - November 26 2010"
Amazon US probably sold out their first Nikon D7000 shipment in pre-orders. Currently, Amazon US lists Novemeber 15ht as the release date for the Nikon D7000 kit:
The rumor is that all major chains in the US got their initial D7000 shipment and could start filling pre-orders as early as October 15th.
BestBuy Canada will get their first shipment on November 3rd according to their website ("scheduled to arrive in our warehouse on 11/03/2010"):

Two places I have spoken to here in Canada (Aden Camera being the most helpful) have indicated that Nikon should be shipping to them at the end of October probably for sale in the first week of November. However, it seems like this is the kit (body + 18-105) and not the body only.
I am posting updated info at:
http://d7000faq.com/buying-info/release-dates/
Thank you Andrew.
Apparently they will be selling it as a kit first, has that been the case before?
thanks for your site, do you live in Vancouver Canada

Faster Nikon, fast! =P
So does that possibly mean that those ordering from Amazon NOW will not get it until Nov 15th? I ordered mine within the hour the pre-order went up so hoping that that isn’t the case.
Brent, I think you’re right. If you order now, you can expect it Nov 15th. If you pre-ordered awhile back, you can expected it before Nov 15th. How much before is anyone’s guess
I ordered mine within hours of the pre-order going online at Amazon and got a shipping notice of Nov 15th. I’m currently looking for other options since it seems Amazon is not a priority location to get first shipments.
it has begun…
(oops i think im a little late)
@low. Welcome back!
Whoa!
BestBuy Canada already got their first shipment as well according to their website (“scheduled to arrive in our warehouse on 11/03/2010″)
uhh… does canada have less months than everyone else? cause that right there says they expect to have them in thier warehouse NOVEMBER 3rd, and we are in what…. OCTOBER? so.. i dont think they already gor thier first shipment.
yes, I got messed up with the US dates – it is on November 3rd.
It can’t come soon enough! I lost 2 (TWO!) gripped D90s with SB900s on 2nd October. Got shoved into a pool. Hope insurance pays out rather than repair/replace with D90s.
Hoping my lenses are fine though! 35 f1.8 dx and 10.5 dx fisheye were 2 (amongst many other) reasons I went Nikon…don’t regret it at all…but now i just wish they were built like olympus e5!
Can you clarify Admin? Are you saying that Amazon could possibly ship their preorders within the next 2 weeks?
Nevermind reread it after the post
“The rumor is that all major chains in the US got their initial D7000 shipment and could start filling pre-orders as early as October 15th. “
What I think happen is Amazon sold out their first shipment and this is why now they have a date on their website – probably when they get their second shipment. At least this is how I see it. It doesn’t make sense for them to write Nov. 15th when the camera is expected to start shipping earlier.
Hope you are right…Doesn’t make sense for other retailers to get the camera a month before Amazon. That’s crazy!
I saw somewhere that bestbuy is shipping them between 17-22 Oct but I guess that was just a rumour.
I am sad with the new, because i do my preorder in amazon, it is my prefer store. But some webstore like bestbuy have the stimate date on 17-22 Oct (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13503&type=page&skuId=1230707&h=387)
17-22 is just at time for my Peru Travel, but Nov 15th is so late
Which part of Peru are you coming to?
In Sweden all the major stores says that D7000 will ship 29 October.
From Amazon…
“Hello,
I apologize for any misunderstanding about the delivery estimate for your order. We rely on the manufacturer for release date information. Our most recent information was that Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0 Inch LCD and 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens will be released on November 15.
Once this item has been released and we receive stock, we will be able to ship it to you. It is not uncommon for there to be a delay of several weeks between the release and distribution of a new product.
When your order is shipped, you should receive an e-mail me”
So that date, from what the email says, is for EVERY order (from Sept 15-today).
And that’s why it’s called “Nikon Rumors.”
Uh, could it be that the lenses are holding back the shipment of the kits and that the bodies are on their way for arrival next week, but no kits? Marketing and distribution-wise this would be a pretty ugly glitch for the launch. But because I ordered the body only and would be very happy to get mine in the very near future, I will try to convince myself of this unlikely scenario.
I pray you are correct on the difference in availability between the kit and the body only. On Amazon it definitely says 11/15 for the KIT, but still has no date for the body only. I pre-ordered mine on 10/1 and I’ve got my 12-24 in hand waiting impatiently. Please come before 10/29!! (trip)
Got one from Seattle Northgate Best Buy moments ago. Called ahead and put on hold for pickup, was not on floor. Grabbed the 10% coupon from the post office moving kit as advised elsewhere here which was honored. Best deal on the kit around right now. Bellvue BB has in stock but refuses to sell until Sunday.
I believe the D7000 will be THE hot camera for the upcoming holiday season.
You mean.. 2011 right?
Nah. Half way through 2011, the D7000 will be “so yesterday” and we’ll be seeing posts “when is the D7100 coming?”
When is the D7100 coming?
When can I pre-order the D7100?
I allready pre-ordered the D7100 yesterday… when will it ship?
$1500 for a non-pro DX camera body ?
That’s ridiculous.
Buy the D90 when it’s still available.
Wrong…. 1200 for the body. 1500 for the kit.
still…
nikon must love those blind sheeps
The D7000 is too expensive as a D90 replacement, but probably worth every dollar. It’s a simple pro camera, the D400′s baby brother. The D90′s real replacement is the one I’m interested in, the D5100. As an amateur I like it to have a plastic body and no auto focus screw to keep it light. If the D3100 is anything to go by the D5100 will be trimmed down, yay. Imagine if they could get the flash sync up to 500, that could make it the true successor to the D40.
So I think the D90 successor is the D5100 which I’m hoping will be the true successor to the D40? Time to go bed I think.
A sales guy — who recommended I *not* get the D7000 — said their store was expecting them the 3rd or 4th week of October.
He wasn’t sure whether they’d have a copy to play with by the Oct 14-16 photography show near Toronto — but given that Nikon Canada will be there, I’d be surprised if the Nikon booth didn’t have copies of their new cameras to play with.
D7000 will probably be out of stock and high in demand for the first few months it is released
I am trying very hard not to miss any of your comments on this post because of the giveaway that is going on – 2600 comments and counting and they all come to one mailbox.

I pre-order my
Holding my breath until it arrives. I pre-ordered at a site that took payment at order because I thought that would put me a little higher in the queue. Do a little checking and you’ll know which one it is. During a call was told I’m #5 in the queue. Looking around the house to figure out what to sacrifice….
Preordered (body only) the morning of the announcement, still see this when I check on my order at Amazon:
Not yet shipped
We’ll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date for this item. It will ship separately. You can cancel at any time.
Won’t believe it’s here till I hold it in my hot, sweaty little hands. Here’s to hoping that it lives up to the pre-hype. I’m buying for three reasons: Video, User settings on the command dial, and the high ISO performance. If the sample shots I’ve seen are any indication, this body should exceed my current D300′s performance in all but frame rate (with battery grip.)
Yep, you could get a D90. Yep, you could probably save some dough. But usable high iso performance, better video, and better controls in a lighter, travel friendly package? Sign me up.
calumet says ships 2-4 weeks
Ugg, If I have to wait till December for the body, I will not be happy.
Is there any info for those who pre-ordered from B&H on the initial announcement?
Does anyone have any advice on when to order this to get it for someone as a Christmas gift?
Now.
Now.
Christmas 2010 or Christmas 2011 ?
any other confirmation if body-only orders are normally released later? starting to think its a slim chance ill get my body pre-order before my November vacation.
thanks
I ordered my D7000 body only from Henry’s to ship here in Canada. Wonder when I can expect it…
Its here. Its coming. I can wait till feb when I get my tax return. In the meantime ill keep shooting my d300. Maybe…just maybe by then they’ll announce the d700(sx) and the ***gasp** cannon 5dmk iii. Sorry I need the 60fps @ 720p. I blame thom hogan.

@FLM Nikon
Strange, Amazon still says no delivery date on my pre-order, which I placed the 15th, the day the D7000 was announced…My order was for the body only. I still hold out hope that mine will be one of the first ones shipped.
Ditto. Ordered body from Amazon on Sept. 14. No word from Amazon yet.
Same here too. Ordered on 9/14, body only, still no shipping date. I really hope I’ll have a nice little surprise next week….!
There is also a $450 rebate when buying D7000 and Espon R2880/R1990 Printer at the same time from B&H.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/735002-REG/Nikon_25468_D7000_DSLR_Camera_Body_.html
It’s a shame the epson printers in that rebate are notoriously horrible.
@lightsaver
Amazon sent me an email. Maybe Nikon is trying to fill kit orders first. As a business stand point I would try to get the camera and lenses people first because they could be first time buyers. Most SLR owners already have that lens and most likely will not switch to another company.
Nikon just announced the Nikon D7000 digitutor:
http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d7000/index.html
Very nice,
This is great and something to keep folks busy until the real deal starts shipping.
Thanks
bit still “Temporarily unavailable” for body and “Available for pre-order” for kit at B&H
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=nikon+d7000&N=0&InitialSearch=yes
Get a load of this:
Adorama states D7000 body only is “backordered”
D7000 + kit lens–”expecting delivery from manufacturer”
And if you’re willing to buy the body, no lens, with their bag, memory card, and extended warranty for ~$1350? “Expecting delivery from manufacturer”
http://www.adorama.com/searchsite/default.aspx?searchinfo=d7000
I just called Amazon. I placed my preorder moments after the item went live on the site.
The agent could not give me an exact date but she told me that I could expect to receive it “around the middle of this month but definitely by the end of October.”
WAHOOOOOOO!
I should add that I ordered the body only.
Awesome, I’m in the same boat!
@thinkthis
Does your amazon order show “Not yet shipped. We’ll notify you blah blah blah” like mine?
Yes.
cool beans
Oh great! Thanks for the info thinkthis!! =)
Amazon Japan still says:
“This item will be released on October 29, 2010″

from amazon…
Hello,
Nikon D7000 16.2MP Digital Camera hasn’t been released yet and the expected release date is not known. We’ll make sure to update our website listing when we know more.
We rely on the manufacturer for release date information.
Once this item has been released and we receive copies, we will be able to ship it to you. It is not uncommon for there to be a delay of several weeks between the release and distribution of a new publication.
When your order is shipped, you should receive an e-mail message confirming the date, contents, and method of your shipment. As per our standard policy, we do not charge you for items until they enter the shipping process, so you will not be charged for this item until it is available and we have shipped it to you.

i’ve pre-order my camera on the 14 september the day of nikon d700 available at amazon…i still receive a date of estimate arrival on the 15 November…bummer than whats the point of preordering first and still have to wait for such a long time
opps forgot to mention i preorder it from amazon
Can’t wait to receive my D7000
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-D7000-18-105-VR-Kit/dp/B00438QJ3M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286955234&sr=8-1 “This item is due to be released on October 29, 2010.”
I can’t make up my mind whether to get the D7000 or wait for its replacement.
No! Wait for the D7000′s replacement’s replacement. That is only 4 years from now.
I plan to wait for the next step up from the 7000. Not the replacement for the 7000.
Wow, this is semi-confusing.
I guess I’ll be blowing some $$ sooner than I though if I want to get it by december.
Adorama now says the body only is back-ordered but the kit is still pre-order. Maybe they hit their preorder quota for the body only.
Nah. The same thing happened w/ the D90. The body release was a month or two behind the kit. Nikon’s priority is to get the kits out to the big box stores since they make more $ on those. Once demand is met they start shipping the body.
I have a D7000 body on order @ Amazon but if I see a kit at Costco first I’m sure I’ll be a sucker and buy it instead and sell the lens. See how Nikon wins there.
I ordered mine from adorama last friday and that backorder message wasn’t there when placed the order. I have no idea where I am in the queue now. I ordered the body with a prime lens not the kit lens…fingers crossed won’t have to wait a month after kit release.
I ordered mine (body only) from Adorama on Sept 22nd and the backorder message WAS there. I have also received two emails about the back order.
The Nikon rep stopped by my store in Canada and said that we would get the D7000 first week of November. Looks like us Canadians will have to wait a little.
Which store are you at, if you don’t mind me asking? I have one on order from Black’s (paid in full) and when I called a couple days ago they said the same thing… wondering if that is happening with all Canadian stores, or just certain ones?
I pre-ordered the d7000 kit just a few minutes after it showed up for pre-order on Amazon and I recieved the November 17th delivery estimate email today as well.
This doesn’t look good. Here’s the reply I received from Amazon (U.S.A.) regarding my September 15th order:
“Amazon.com Customer Service to me
Hello,
I apologize for any misunderstanding about the delivery estimate for your order.
“Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0 Inch LCD (Body Only)” hasn’t been released yet and the expected release date is not known. We’ll make sure to update our website listing when we know more.
We rely on the manufacturer for release date information.
It appears that this release has been delayed. We do not have any information on the updated release date at this time. Many manufacturers, publishers, and record labels restrict retailers from selling or shipping their products until the official release date.
As soon as the item has been released, we’ll be able to ship it to you. As per our standard policy, we do not charge you for items until they enter the shipping process, so you will not be charged for this item until it is available and we have shipped it to you.
When your order is shipped, you should receive an e-mail message confirming the date, contents, and method of your shipment.”
No other indications of delivery have shown up in my email. Sigh.
Don’t put too much faith in what any CSR tells you about delivery time for unreleased and backordered info. All they know is what is on their computer screen and many times the delivery dates given to companies are just fillers set out way in the future. It’s the whole under promise, over deliver psychology.
Over-heating sensor delay? (Sony DSLR issues)
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/29/sony-a55-a33-video-recording-limited-by-overheating-sensor/
Isn’t the sensor supposed to be the same as the a55?
First, it is probably a Nikon version of that sensor, so hopefully it is better (and works at the length on the specs).
Second, the heat problem seems to come from the image stabilization which is in the body of the Sony camera while if there is VR on the Nikon, it is on the lens.
Good to know. It’s been in the back of my mind.
Just spoke to Calumet Germany. They say Nikon Germany are insisting on early november. Nothing precise here.
Interesting,
My order was placed on Sept 22nd from Amazon, yet I’ve recieved no update from Amazon on the delivery date.
Status has not change since the order was placed.
“We’ll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date for this item.”
Same here. Ordered body only on 9/14 about 3 hours after the announcement.
I’m really going to be angry if it takes an extra month or two to get the body only orders. Spending the extra on the kit would have been worth not having to wait.
I did get similar mail:
“We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on September 18 2010 (Order# ******606):
“Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0 Inch LCD and 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens”
Estimated arrival date: November 17 2010″
