Additional information and pictures of the new Nikon 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lenses

Some additional information on the new Nikon super-tele lenses that will be announced in few hours (stay tuned for detailed coverage):

Nikkor AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR lens:

Fluorite element (FL)
Three ED elements
Electromagnetic diaphragm
Lightweight
Improved AF performance during motion tracking
Fluorine coating
VR up to four stops
Sports VR mode
Minimum focusing distance: 3.6m (the current 500mm f/4 version can focus at 4m)
Weight: 3,090g (the current 500mm f/4 version weights 3,880g)
Price in Japan: 1.16 million yen or around $9,500 (the current 500mm f/4 version is priced at $8,295)

Nikon F3 camera was used to shoot the mine car chase scene in the Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom movie

Ron Volmershausen published another interesting video showing how the guys at ILM used a stock-standard Nikon F3 to film parts of the mine car chase scene in the Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom movie. The film registration system within the F3 proved to be so accurate for the stop-motion filming, that the only modification required for the film transport mechanism was a slowing down by 1/3 the speed of the MD-4 motorized winder. Price and first picture of the new Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR lens

The Japanese price for the new AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR lens will be 1.16 million yen (tax included) or around $9,500. In the US the current 500mm f/4 version is priced at $8,295. My guess is that the new 500mm lens will costs around $8,999 in the US.

Possible Nikon announcement this week

I believe Nikon will have an official announcement this week. I have not confirmed it yes, but most likely we will see the three new Nikkor lenses I already mentioned yesterday. The Nikkor 16-80mm f/2.8-4G DX N lens will not be cheap and gives some new hopes for the Nikon DX product line.
