Nikon D600 shelf display adapters started shipping to retailers

Some BestBuy stores received shelf display power adapters labeled for a “Nikon D000” camera (used to power the camera on the display shelf). I believe those adapters are for the Nikon D600. It is a common procedure for retailers to ship adapters few day before a new camera becomes available. There is a good chance that the Nikon D600 will start shipping shortly after the announcement next week.

The latest Nikon patents

Nikon filed patent 2012-155026 in Japan for a lens adapter with adjustable flange back. The helicoid ring allows to further close focus the lens (similar adapter already exists for using Leica lenses with Sony NEX camera). In this patent the flange back will automatically be adjusted by the camera (CPU).

Nikon New Zealand got some exciting news coming on Monday

Nikon New Zealand posted on Facebook that they have some exciting news coming on Monday. I don’t think they have the D600 in mind, because the announcement should be on Thursday, September 13 (± 1 day based on your timezone). Maybe NPS will be coming to New Zealand, as some of the comments suggested?

Update: this is probably the surprise from Nikon New Zealand.

New for Photokina: Zeiss Distagon T* 55mm f/1.4 ZF.2 lens

Zeiss will announce a new Distagon 55mm f/1.4 ZF.2 lens (Nikon mount) at Photokina. The lens will be available for sale in the second half of 2013. Zeiss already has two 50mm lenses in their lineup: Planar T* 50mm F/1.4 ZF.2 and Makro-Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZF.2 (check this comparison of seven 50mm prime lenses for Nikon F-mount).

The company also announced plans to produce lenses for mirrorless cameras. No other details were given at that point – it will be interesting to see if Nikon 1 will be included.
