I first heard about the Sandhill Cranes at Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge last year. I came across some amazing images of these cranes, bathed in gorgeous New Mexico light, and thought that I definitely need to head there in the near future. Well, I finally got a chance to go to Bosque during the last week of November, and let me tell you, it really lives up to the hype – a photographer’s paradise!

Sigma announced the shipping date for the new 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports lens for Nikon F-mount: February 22. The price of the lens is $1,499. For comparison, the latest Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E version is now selling for $2,496.95 (with the current lens rebates).

Nikon’s 3rd quarter financial results are out

Today Nikon released their Q3 financial results for the year ending on March 31, 2019:

“High-end camera sales was brisk thanks to the new ML launch, but fierce competitions in the shrinking entry/mid-range DSLR markets
suppressed the volume largely in addition with the initial cost, resulting in revenue/profit reductions.”

Here is a recap by ZoetMB:

Nikon originally forecast Imaging Division Revenue of ¥320 billion and the new forecast is ¥305, down 15.44% from 2018.
They forecast Earnings of ¥29 billion, raised the forecast to ¥33 billion in August and the new forecast is ¥25 , down 17.22% from 2018.
They forecast 2.3 million DCIL units and the new forecast is 2.1 million, down 19.85% from 2018.
They forecast 3.4 million lenses and the new forecast is 3.2 million, down 20.2% from 2018
They forecast 1.8 million compacts and the new forecast is 1.6 million, down 36.25% from 2018.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens to be announced next

Nikon is rumored to officially announce their new Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S full-frame mirrorless lens soon. My guess is that we will have the announcement before the CP+ show that starts on February 28th. Here are the rumored details (for comparison, in the brackets you can find the specs of the current Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR F-mount lens):
