Nikon explains why in-lens VR is better compared to in-camera VR

In a recent article, Nikon explains why in-lens VR system is superior compared to in-camera VR:

  1. Corrected finder image makes photo composition easy.
  2. Each lens is optimally tuned to achieve reliable correction.
  3. Image information captured by the AF and metering sensors is corrected with in-lens VR.
  4. Patterns of image blur are not the same with all lenses.

Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens samples

I did not see a single preview of the new Nikkor DX Micro 40mm f/2.8G lens online, which is highly unusual compared to previous product releases. There were no YouTube videos, product shots or sample photos taken with the lens. As far as I know, there were no press events scheduled around the world where the major industry players could have a quick hands-on with the new product. My information is that nobody has seen or touched the new lens. I could only find some more sample images from Nikon AustraliaNikon India and Nikon France (on flickr):

German store sent invites to see new products on September 15th, 2011

This is the invitation a big German camera store has sent out about a product demonstration on September 15th, 2011. The translation goes something like  “..know everything about the current products… we clean your equipment, while you  inform yourself about the newest products“.

In the past this store has sent out similar invitations when new products were launched from Canon, Hasselblad and others.

Another Nikon D4/D800 rumor from Facebook

Bryan Peterson posted this on his Facebook page, claiming to be from a reliable French “inside” friend:

“Two new Nikon’s-The D800, at 20MP, full frame, retail price of $2495.00 and Nikon DX-4, full frame at 19-20MP with a retail price of $5,000.00 and both will be announced by late September 2011!”

I am not sure what to think about this rumors – 19-20MP is a rather unusual size for a full frame sensor and the $5000 price tag of the D4 (I assume the DX-4 was a typo) means that it will be cheaper than the D3s (currently priced at $5200). I expect the new full frame DSLRs from Nikon to have a higher price tag than their predecessors.

Bryan Peterson has several published photography books.
