Detailed information on the new lens:
Designed specifically for the Nikon Z mount
Equipped with an optical system optimized for the image sensors of mirrorless cameras that use the Nikon Z mount, this lens has a full-size image circle and can be used with both full-size (Nikon FX format) mirrorless cameras and APS-C size (Nikon DX format) mirrorless cameras.
Controlling spherical aberration
It is equipped with a control ring with a new mechanism that increases or decreases the correction of spherical aberration. When the image is over-corrected, the center of focus remains and the background bokeh becomes hard and bubbly. In contrast, when the image is under-corrected, the center of focus becomes soft and flare occurs in the highlights. The background bokeh becomes smoother, allowing for bokeh with an unprecedented range.
Electronic contacts for communication with the body
The lens mount is equipped with electronic contacts, enabling electrical communication between the lens and body. The combination of an electrical communication-compatible body and the latest firmware*1 enables support for Exif information, in-body image stabilization (3-axis), and three focusing support functions: focusing by changing the focus point frame color, focusing by peaking, and focusing by using the magnification button (note that these functions may not function if the control ring is turned too far).
Manual focus for precise focusing
The all-metal helicoid unit is machined and adjusted with high precision, and the use of high-quality grease that generates just the right amount of torque ensures smooth focusing, allowing for subtle focus adjustments.
Beautiful bokeh with 9 aperture blades
A nine-blade diaphragm is used to make the aperture shape closer to a circle, resulting in natural depiction of out-of-focus areas and soft, rounded bokeh of point light sources rather than polygonal.
*1 Please use the latest firmware version for your camera body. Please use the latest firmware version, especially for cameras released before 2020 (Z5, Z6I, Z6II, Z7, Z7II, Z50), as older firmware may result in insufficient performance or limited functionality. Please refer to the camera body’s instruction manual for details on checking the camera body’s firmware and obtaining the latest firmware.
*2 Please manually change the image area settings.
