Using the new Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports lens on Nikon cameras with the Megadap Pro+ adapter

Dariusz Breś tested the new Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports lens (price: $3,299more info) on Nikon cameras with the latest Megadap Pro+ adapter (price: $249more info). Here is a side-by-side comparison with the Nikkor AF-S VR 200mm f/2 G AF-S IF-ED lens:

Summary, pros+cons, and conclussion:

Summary

The Sigma 200 2 DG OS Sports – the Holy Grail is here . Impressive f/2 aperture at 200mm, excellent sharpness from wide open, above-average vividness, incredible image stabilization, and a robust, weather-sealed body. Sigma isn’t just entering a niche that has for years been occupied exclusively by system brands – it’s redefining it.

In this way, Yamaki-san once again proves its ability to create top-of-the-line optical equipment. The 200 2 is a design that until recently existed only in the realm of photographers’ dreams – mainly due to limited availability and prohibitive price. Today, it is becoming a viable option for a much wider range of users.

Honestly, I appreciate Sigma’s bold and unconventional approach to building its product range . The brand not only produces high-quality standard lenses but also isn’t afraid to introduce extraordinary designs to the market – often unique or even unavailable from other manufacturers.

It is enough to mention models such as: Art Fisheye 15 1.4, Art 14 1.4, Art 40 1.4, Sports 300–600 4, or the described Sports 200 2. These are lenses that go beyond the typical framework of system solutions and really expand the creative possibilities of photographers.

It may have arrived late to the market, in an era where AI and fake digital bokeh reign supreme, but that’s precisely what makes the Sigma 2002 stand out even more. In a world full of gimmicks, it offers something real. Those who choose it will experience what’s most beautiful in photography: authentic plasticity, depth, and images that impress without any filters.

Specially, it bothers me less and less that Sigma still doesn’t produce full-frame Z-mount lenses – and that’s solely because Nikon won’t license them. I use a Megadap every day, which is permanently attached to the lens. Why do I choose this solution, even though I have top-of-the-line Nikon Z lenses? Have you seen the 300-600 4 in the Z system? Or the 200 2, 20 1.4 Art, 14 1.4 Art, I-Series, or Fiszka 15 1.4… not to mention the prices.

Bye bye, Nikkor 200 2, hello Sigmo 200 2 DG OS Sports – shut up and take my money!

Pros

  • amazing, wonderful picture
  • separation from the background
  • perfect sharpness across the entire frame from f/2
  • HLA lightning linear motor
  • incredible stabilization
  • sealed housing
  • hydro and oleophobic coatings
  • lighter and smaller than the competition
  • construction, made in Japan
  • price
  • 3-year Polish distributor warranty with the possibility of extension to 5 years

Cons

  • only available for Sony and L mount

Conclusion

The Sigma 200 2 DG OS Sports gets a 6 from me… on a 5-point scale . Does that make sense? Absolutely not. Does that say it all? Absolutely. Another lens that blows my scale – right up there with the Nikkor 800 PF, the Sigma 50 1.2 Art, and the monster Sigma 300-600 4 Sports. I think it’s time to invent a new scale.Sigma is firing on all cylinders, ladies and gentlemen. Bravo!
