Nikon gaining back market share in Japan thanks to the Z8 camera

The Japanese BCN retail ranking published an article called “Nikon rises to 3rd place in the mirrorless market, with the release of the Z8” (Google translated):

“Nikon ‘s market share is steadily increasing in mirrorless single-lens cameras . The sales share by manufacturer in May 2023 will be 12.9%. It overtook OM Digital Solutions (former Olympus ) and moved up to 3rd place. This is the first time in three years that the company has entered the top three. It became clear from the ” BCN Ranking” , which aggregates the actual sales data of home appliance mass retailers and online shops.”

Here is the Japanese mirrorless camera market share from May 2020 until May 2023 – Nikon is back at the #3 spot and Canon is back at #1:

Please note: BCN Ranking collects real sales data from approximately 40% of the Japanese retailers – this is not a worldwide market share report. Previous BCNR reports can be found here.
