There is a new firmware update version 1.2.0 for the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 Z mirrorless lens (the first autofocus Z-mount lens from a third party). The new firmware contains improved lens compatibility.

CameraLabs recently published their review of the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 Z mirrorless lens – here is their verdict:

Good points:

  • Very good resolution – if focused optimally.
  • Good Bokeh.
  • Low vignetting (through lens profile).
  • Low price.

Bad points:

  • Focus consistency is mediocre.
  • Strong focus shift.
  • Field curvature mars performance on flat or distant subjects.
  • Longitudinal colour aberrations.
  • Low resistance against flare and glare.
  • No weather sealing.
  • Distortions are not completely corrected by built-in lens profile.
