sweet.. i love samyang 8mm f3.5 fe on dx.. this looks just as good.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ian Dangerzone

Cool! As an owner of the Rokinon 14mm 2.8, a fantastic lens with great value, this is more great news for the ultrawide crowd. These optics are legitimate.

  • rt-photography

I use the 8mm 3.5 on my FF but I do want to have a ff version and here it is. lets hope the price is reasonable. its this or upgrade to the sigma 15. problem with the 8mm is playing with the focus doesnt change much in the VF but the in the image if youre off a bit the picture is not in focus.

Hey Peter is there a price tag? approximation?

  • Mick

But tomorrow is 11th… and no other rumors about D750???? Few hours only… and no images, no infos… ๐Ÿ™

Been seriously looking at the Sigma 15mm FF fisheye in recent weeks, but now this. What to do? Price is less on this I’m sure, but beyond that – opinions people? (based on previous Samyang fisheye lenses, as I’m sure no one has tried this one yet?)

    • I was disappointed by the Sigma. Pretty fuzzy. Last used on a D800.

      • Henry

Have you tried Samyang or Rokinon lenses, fisheye or otherwise? Thoughts if so?

        • Stefan Suchanec

The 14mm 2.8 Samyang is extremely sharp. It was almost as sharp as my 14-24mm 2.8. However, the distortion is really bad. Not in the way the 16-35mm is at 16mm, but really mustache-y and tough to correct. There are profiles for the lens people have created in lightroom, but none of them are that good in my opinion

          • Henry

Thanks for the reply @Stefan Suchanec:disqus. Good to hear your experience with the 14mm Samyang. I’ll keep my eyes open for reviews on this one, but won’t rush into anything. The D750 on the other hand… can’t wait for it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I shoot the 14mm Samyang on my D800E and I agree, the distortion is a serious problem. For some landscape shots you can get away with it, and then the results are very good,

        • No, I haven’t, sorry.

        • D810-D5200_user

The DX 8mm f/3.5 fisheye they do is pretty cool and unexpensive. It’s quite soft wide open, but very sharp stoped down. The horizon line equates pretty well too. Here some shots from/of it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ruimc/sets/72157641185815415/ — If the new FX 14mm f/2.8 follows the same standard and price range, it should be very cool.

          • Henry

Thanks for sharing your images. Some very nice ones!

Henry, I’ve tried every wide-angle Rokinon lens available, practically, and they’re all incredibly sharp. In my opinion, Roki-Bow-Yang is the hands-down champion of astro-landscape photography right now, especially considering how dedicated they are to all sensor / camera formats including not just FX but also DX and even mirrorless. (I’ve tested the Rokinon 12mm f/2 on a Sony A6000, the Rokinon 10mm f/2.8 on a Nikon D5300, and the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 on a Nikon D800e, for example)

Simply put, if you take decent care of your lenses and don’t mind manual focus, you absolutely cannot get a sharper lens. I’m extremely excited about a full-frame fisheye from Rokinon / Samyang, and will be testing it ASAP!

I agree with Matt above. I have the 16mm f/2 and it is *excellent* for astrophotography. The extreme corners are ridiculously sharp and very, very close to being completely 100% coma free (it’s only ever-so-slightly noticeable at 100% zoom). Only drawback is vignetting is a bit heavier than most lenses, but I’d rather have that than comalicious corners.

I think Admin enjoys playing tease with us ;). Next up, some silly article in the SB-500 flash ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • I am trying really hard to get something. It is really getting harder. I don’t even know how I was able to get what we know so far. The official announcement should be tonight or tomorrow night (EST). In the mean time I am online and if I find something, will post it ASAP.

      • Jon McGuffin

We all know and appreciate GREATLY your efforts here. I was just messing around with ya. Thanks for all the info and keep up the good work!

WHAT ARE YOU DOING READING AND ANSWERING THE POSTS HERE THEN? GO BACK TO WORK! NOW!

        Just joking of course…

  • Plug

!2mm is wide for a fisheye. This could be real fun!

  • Matthew Saville Baldon

Looks like it’ll be smaller and lighter than the Rokinon 14mm, which has so much barrel distortion that it might as well be a fisheye anyways. Looks like I’ll be buying this bad boy, or at least reviewing it!
