Plausible prediction of Nikon announcements

DSLRGossip has a very plausible prediction of Nikon announcements (I am still a bit disappointed on the lenses selection):
The rumor is that Nikon is going to announce 5 new products on July 1, 2008. Of the 3 products are sure to be announced. The rest 2 are not clear. Here are some possibilities:
For sure these will be announced on July 1, 2008:
1. Nikon D700 FX - a 12.1 megapixel full-frame based on Nikon D300 body
2. Nikon 45mm f/2.8D PC-E ED
3. Nikon 85mm f/2.8D PC-E Micro ED
Option 1
4. Nikon D90 - 12 megapixel DX replacement for Nikon D80
5. SB-900 speedlight
Option 2
4. SB-900 speedlight
5. Nikon 200mm f/4 Micro AF-S VR Nano
Option 3
4. Nikon D90 - 12 megapixel DX replacement for Nikon D80
5. Nikon 200mm f/4 Micro AF-S VR Nano
The much anticipated Nikon 24 megapixel Nikon D3x will be announced in September 2008.

D300 price has dropped by around $40 to $50 this week, may be there is a reason for this.

    Example Price:
JR was selling for $1699 last week, now it is $1649. I have seen similar drops at several other websites as well.

  • Stylus

The smartest move for Nikon is to update the D80 NOW.

    D700 can wait until Photokina

  • Kendall

Is no one anticipating a new 50mm AF-S? Is that just wishful thinking at this point with no, even halfway reliable, info on the validity of its existence?

  • Kendall

that is, other than the discontinuation of the 50mm AF with likely another FX coming out, which would leave the “fast normal” focal length (on FX) to only third parties (e.g. sigma) and second hand stores.

But are the PC-E lenses announcements? Both were announct weeks ago, so thats no rumor not even a news.

  • Theo

Dear Nikon top management, please make the D90 to materialize soon.

    Thank you.

I was! That’s why I am a bit disappointed. See my previous posts under lenses.

    Currently Nikon has:

    PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED
    PC Micro-NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D

In the post DSLRGossip are talking about:

    PC-E ED 45mm f/2.8D
    PC-E Micro ED 85mm f/2.8D

I am also surprised (and unhappy) that they will not give us some more AF-S primes. Do we need so many PC lenses? Parts of this rumor comes from the leaked D700 catalog – there were pictures of 2 lenses (
    PC-E Nikkor 24 mm f/3.5
    PC-E Micro Nikkor 45 mm f/2.8
So it could just be a typo from DSLGossip. It is hard for me to believe that  they will release another 2 PC lenses, but why would they put them in the D700 catalog?

  • Haruki

But the PC-E 45 and PC-E 85 were announced in january, that s nothing new:
Nikon UK is also pleased to share important news about two more lenses to expand and strengthen our PC NIKKOR lens lineup. The new PC-E NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED and PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D will be exhibited at the PMA 2008 International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, USA from January 31 to February 2, 2008.

    dpreview in january

I cannot really clarify that – DSLgossip reported it. I am a bit confused too.

What happened to the revised 70-200 VR and 80-400 AF-S VR long lenses supposed to be coming out before the Olympics? Made sense…….

  • Blog Admin

But they won’t be available for the Olympics anyway.

  • Commendatori

Nikon won’t announce a “D700”. That doesn’t make any sense. The D300 just came out and they have no reason to compete with the D3. In fact, why would anyone buy a D3 is there’s a smaller, lighter, cheaper version, with exactly the same resolution? Besides, when have they ever jumped names–from a D300 to a D700? If it happens…great, I’ll be first in line, but I think that’s just silly.

    We will see next week…

  • JFD

Check out and wait for the banner to reveal the Nikkor new PC lenses… good stuff!!!

  • Marc

Here is a screenshot:” title=”Nikkor PC-E by MrDAT, on Flickr”>

This means that the D700 is probably real!
