I found an interesting article on Nikon lenses wish list. I will allow myself to ad some more “wishes” to that list.
I think the “golden” range between 24mm and 60 mm is not covered here and this is one of the most widely used focal lengths. Let me be more specific – I think the sweet spot here is between 30mm and 50 mm. To be more specific an AF-S 30mm and an AF-S 50mm will be on top of my wish list. And let’s hope they are fast – at least f/1.8 and less than $600. Nikon had a huge success with the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D, so why not continue it with AF-S? And why let Sigma make money with the 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM (they even recently came out with 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM)? Those facts make the 30mm and 50mm lenses a good candidate to complete the Nikon lenses lineup soon.
So what do we got in terms of rumors here?
- dpreview post talks about AF-S 50mm f/1.2 ED VR – wow! I do not believe the VR function, but the rest is yummy. The post is old, but they even have a picture of the lens (maybe photoshoped).
- I could not find any references about the AF-S 30mm, but someone here mentioned about AF-S 28mm f/1.4
If Canon can make a 50mm f/1.8 with internal motor for around $80, why not Nikon even if it costs more? So if you are in the market for such lens, the gods might be smiling on you by the end of 2008.
