Rumor: upcoming lenses from Nikon

In addition to the updates for the 200-400mm f/4.0 and the 85mm f/1.4 lenses, I received some information that Nikon also has plans for a 24-xxxmm f/4.0 VR and a 70-200 mm f/4.0 VR lenses. Previous rumor suggested a new 24-120 f/4.0 VR lens, but the long focal end could "only" be 105mm. If true, this will reduce the size and weight of the lens (compared to 120mm) and will make it an ideal candidate to be the kit lens for the D700 replacement.

New lenses with f/4.0 aperture is probably what Mr. Sasagaki had in mind when he promised “more affordable” lenses are coming soon.

In 2011 Nikon will bring more fast primes: 35mm f/1.4 (see patent) and 50 f/1.2 mm (see patent). The report I received last year also indicated that the 35mm f/1.4 lens will be released in 2011.

Note: All those lenses could be a long term plan for Nikon and long term plans very often change, so [NR] probability for the 24-XXX f/4.0 + 70-200 f/4.0 to be released in 2010 and 35mm f/1.4 + 50 f/1.2 lenses to be released in 2011 is at 40% for now.

I understand that you: NR , Are trying to keep your web page alive. However Nikon co. is not about to launch anything new nor for professional or prosumers. But the last straw is trying to sell us two pieces of crap like those lenses for a pretty god camera like D700. Sometimes I wondered if you, NR had any relationship with Nikon Marketing Dep. Now I’m sure; If you aren’t you are trying to drive us crazy. Canon and Nikon are going to worn out their stocks waiting for better times. Now-a-days the business is in compact cameras.

will i ever see a beloved 135 DC again? :c

Nothing is coming. Nikon will shut down the business and will sell peanuts.!

    Peanuts, peanuts! :-)

    • litebyte

If they really will sell peanuts, people will complain that the peanuts Canon is selling are bigger

      • Pat

no, people in the nikon world would complain they are only offered max diameter 1/2.8″ peanuts or otherwise misc crap, seeing the canon world offer 1/4″ diameter peanuts that sells for a bit less.

oh, they would also complain canon sells 21 million peanuts for $2700 while nikon sells 12 million peanuts for a ridiculous $2400, even tho the nikon peanuts are bigger individually and taste a bit better in the dark ;)

Im beginning to believe that you guys are right… i dont think there is anything coming .. for now at least….

They have D300s, D700, D3, D3s, D3x… Seems to me that they have done pretty much everything.. Of course the D90 and D700 need to be replaced.. (D3s would be the replacement for D3).. but the replacement theyll come out with would probably be a D700s.. the D3s technology in a D700 body… The problem is ..its too soon to screw up the D3s market.. so thats out.. Another possibility could be a revamp of D700.. much like the D300s. Same Mega Pixels.. but adds video ( 720p),,, dual mem card etc.

There is no way they will come out with something that will take away the sales from D3s and D3x… so im not expecting a camera that rivals the top end models.

    In 2 weeks.. Ill start selling my gear. ALL OF IT.. It took me 4 years to get everything that i got.. D700, 14-24, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.4, 24-70 , 70-200 . 3 x SB800, 1 x SB900, SU800 .

Of course, ill be replacing it with the 5D Mk II, and equivqlent lenses. but ill get the 50 , and 85mm instead.. of course.. both f/1.2.. plus a few flashes.. Ill get a higher MP, Full HD video..

Its time… cant wait all this time and find out later that nikon screwed us all over with a crappy upgrade…

    Good Bye Nikon!.

Curious how NR made no mention about Photozone review of Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VRII?

Is it because it fail to live up to expectation and not as good as Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L MkII?
