10 reasons why Nikon acquiring Samsung’s camera business doesn’t make any sense

Rumors about Nikon acquiring all or a portion of Samsung imaging business are nothing new – they started on Russian forums and dpreview and I even speculated about it a month ago:

I have also received email tips on this topic but never found them reliable enough to publish them online. Several readers have asked me about my opinion on all this, so here it is – I have no reason to believe any of this is true. Here are my reasons:

Deal of the day: Nikon Coolpix P900 camera for $549

New Nikon patent for a Nikkor PC-E 19mm f/4 full frame mirrorless tilt-shift lens

Nikon has a new patent filed in Japan for a Nikkor PC-E 19mm f/4 full frame mirrorless tilt-shift lens. This is the second Nikon patent for a full frame mirrorless lens – the first one was for a 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens.

I already reported rumors that Nikon is working on a new full frame mirrorless camera. Here is a 2014 quote from Toshiaki Akagi (Department Manager in Nikon Design Department) about the possibility of a new large sensor mirrorless camera in the future:
